I don't own one but I've seen one in action. I don't know if it was defective or what but it was rattling and noisey. I ended up with a JBJ Artica, dead silent and the 1/10 hp keeps my tank about 81-82 all summer long.
our CC50 was pretty quiet, although we had it in the fish room/garage, so it was hard to really guage it's noise level. It did a decent job pulling down the temp. The built in controller was nice, but we opted to use our enxternal dual stage controller so taht we could control the heaters too, from the same controller (no worries about battling controllers ).
I worked in a fish store for a while and 90% of the polar bear chillers sold came back defective. I even bought one when they first came out and I ended up going through three of them before giving up. They work in the begining but the thermostats all end up going out. This is the worst chiller on the market. Don't get it.
