ViaAqua SK-388 In Sump Skimmer

I had the via aqua multiskimmer deluxe... at first glance it seemed to be cutting edge and a great price (just like this one). In reality it was a piece of crap, and Commodity axis never returned any of my emails about warranty, problems, or how hard it was to get to work properly. It was extremely noisy, leaked, and certain pieces broke the first week I had it. My suggestion is to buy a better brand for a few bucks more. Hope this helps!

this is a different model from the multiskimmer. this one looks like it might be fairly decent, though i personally don't trust the CA pump they have on it.

Sorry, if there was a misunderstanding. I know it's different. The point was, the multiskimmer also looked like a heck of an engineering job, and I'll still agree with that. It had some fantastic ideas. It doesn't seem like anyone tested the prototype before they rocketed it onto shelves. The main point was, don't be fooled by how something looks. I won't ever buy a skimmer over the net again because of these guys. Now, don't get me wrong. The skimmer you're referring to may be the next amazing buy! But based on commodity axis' poor track record with me, I'll never recommend them to anyone. (They just happened to have manufactured my pc lighting that I used for a full year and a half, and I was pretty happy with that!) Do yourself one favor, find out who retails them, and go to the store. Look it over in person. I almost bought a skimmer (can't remember what brand) and a LFS here sells that brand. I went to their store, and the acrylic tube that goes through the side of the acrylic skimmer broke off in my hand in the store! I'm glad I didn't buy that one. I think the commodity axis guys have a great design team, but they need to think a little more when cutting costs.

Thanks to all for helping with the skimmer i went to the lfs and the skimmer looks good for me, the colection cup its very big and all for a good price, so i got it and now all i can do is pray :D
Soon ill set up the tank and ill let you know how good or bad it is..

About how much skimmate does it take out each day and is it easily adjustable (wet/dry). I am sure everybody here would love a writeup of it as it is fairly new and unproven. thanks for the info, tanks looks great for only being a month old.

Well... first the kimmer came with no user manual (i brougth this skimmer in Texas and i live in Mexico, so i cant go back to the store) so i e-mail them and they send me a copy of the user manual the next day.
This the skimmer is VERY easy to instal, just to make sure the water level is more than 5" and less than 9", afther this it is jus playing with the air vable and the water outlet... it took me 15 - 20 min to adjust it.
About the waste, (the tank is new and it has no much waste) it takes away 1/4 of a Gal every week...
If you have the chance and dont want to spend 200 - 300 or more in a skimmer this is a good option IMHO

ViaAqua In-Sump Protein skimmer

ViaAqua In-Sump Protein skimmer

*NO* this is not a good protein skimmer. In my experience this is a terrible, high-maintenance, nearly impossible to run protein skimmer. It is virtually impossible to get the right type of skimmate over any extended period of time. Adjusting the gadgets is unhelpful. I have never had this kind of difficulty with any skimmer before. Whoever invented this product should be punched in the face.

I am planning to buy this viaaqua 388nw skimmer 2.
I have heard it's a big skimmer. My sump chamber is 12 inch X 10 inch.
Can i fit the skimmer in that space?
Anyone can tell me?
