i have a ten gallon sump and the pump sits right in the middle of it. the box that the pump came in said silent running. but i can hear a very loud vibrating noise. i have tried everything moving the pump around, moving the sump around, i even have two towles under the sump to absorb some of the vibrations. it still does not seem to work. what do you suggest i do to solve thos problem.

but i have suction cups that connect the pump to it. how would i use sillicone

Anywhere the pump touches the sump, put silicone on it.It worked well for me my Mag7 was super loud (vibration) & is much better now that i did that.I just took it out of the sump,& put it all around the bottom then let it dry for an hour or so.

Suction cups usually absorb most of the vibration but you can also try to sit the pump on top of a thick (1/4") rubber pad.
Also check how the pump is connected to the rest of the system. Too rigid hose or pipe can transfer the vibration to the rest of the system. Try using short pieces of soft rubber hose at the pump's outlet (and inlet if piped).

Finally cavitating pumps with restricted inlet can vibrate a lot. to improve this remove any sponge filter material you might have at the pump inlet. If the inlet is piped use a larger diameter pipe, if submerged try increasing the water level in the sump so the pump gets more inlet pressure, if everything fails you may need to restric the ouput to stop cavitation if that is what is creating the vibration.

You can also go to the dollar store and get a silicon spoon rest to put under the pump, instead of a bead of silicon. That way you don't have to scrape the silicon off if you decide to rearrange your sump.

If it's really bad you might want to make sure your impeller isn't off balance. They'll usually wear an oblong (rather than round) hole in the shaft seat if it's not making a consistent rotation.

I put some silicone on some wax paper, and spread it out till it was the size that I wanted and about 1/4 inch thick, I let that dry and them peeled it off, and I put that sheet of silicone under my pump, and it seems to work well to quiet it.

thanks for all of the advice i will try probably everything. i mean it doesn't really bother me but it bothers the old lady so i have to do something if you know what i mean. lol
