Video Clowns Spawning

If you capture your clowns spawning on video post it here.

My pair spawn in a different spot tonight but I did change my power heads and water flow. They have always chose that slate behind the nem. As always the place they chose to spawn is a piece of old coral that was reef puttied in and easy to remove. Always fun to learn about these fun clowns.

Do you still have any of the mocha clownfish for sale?

This is not a selling forum it is for learning together about breeding and raising marine fish species. Please restrain yourself from asking such questions in the general forums buying or selling. I know you are new to Reef Central and I mean no disrespect and I'm not trying to sound harsh. I'm only trying to keep you out of trouble and the forum pure for what it's intended for. Questions like these should be limited to PM's (Private Messages) only.

Congrats on the spawn.....Your clowns are beautiful!
Are you going to raise this clutch?

Hi Sandy.....no congrats needed on the spawn they spawn every 2 weeks like clock work. Nope not raising them, taking a long and need break. I'll probably raise a couple spawns this winter.

If you noticed in the video the male didn't like where she was spawn and kept running back to the slate, as if to say you are suppose to do that here baby this is our love nest. I didn't think he was fertilizing correctly but he sure did and I'm seeing tiny silver eyes and it's a very large spawn.

I see you are rolling on you new guys, you need the congrats.

This is a video of their pre-spawn behavior and very interesting if you look close at her behavior. Note: How well they clean the area and how she rubs her tube across the area to make sure it is to her liking for the adhesive eggs she will soon attach to the spawn sight.

30 minute later, I took my camera with me to see what was in the making. This is what I found.

Sport,
First, awesome video! I have only witnessed my clowns laying just once and i only had my i-phone to take a video that really isnt so great. : )
Second, I cant remember how you do it.... if you were to raise this batch do you fish for the fry out of your dt or do you put in a tile for them to lay eggs on close to their anemone?
Thanks again.~Jo

Jo,

They spawn on a piece of dead coral I puttied in place as a potential spawn sight. So if I chose to raise the clutch I would remove it and put it in a rearing tank on hatch night. The reason I put it where I did is because they spawn the first three times just under that spot on the live rock. They didn’t spawn on the slate just behind the RBTA because I changed the water flow in the DT and the anemone has it completely covered.

Just for fun after this batch hatches in the DT as food I will then put a square piece of slate on top of their current spawning sight and see it they spawn on that, I’m 95% sure they will and we will know in about 14 days. Then I will change the flow again and see if I can get them to spawn in their old spot on the slate behind the anemone. I would like to use this thread to see if we can control where they spawn. This could be an interesting experiment that we can all learn from.
