vietnam clams

From what I read from this forum, the harvesting technique was not much of anything sometime ago. They just rip them off the rocks. Nowadays, harvesting techniques are much improved due to lots of complaints. IMO, I still think it depends on the supplier. FWIW, my 7 new clams I added in December were from Vietnam and are currently doing great, putting on new shell and came with good looking footies. :-)

Vietnam is one of the biggest if not biggest exporter of clams for the aqurium trade.
Almost all the croceas are from there
99%of the tear drops max are from there
and nice percentage of other clams

I have two teardrops from Vietnam in the tank now. One has been in there for about 2.5 months and has been doing great. 1/4 inch of new shell!!! I have heard that many of the solomon Island clams come attached to the original rock they mounted on. The Vietnam clams are typically attached to only rubble. I was a little worried when I got mine but they are doing really well. I think these are safe...knock on wood.

Some of the transshippers are now holding clams from Vietnam for a period of a week or so to make sure that their clams are not damaged from collections, from what I've heard. Here are three teardrops I recently purchased via Vietnam. The second was shipped as a teardrop, but seems more to me like a really cool ultra maxima

I also have 3 Vietnam teardrops that are very healthy. Two of them are very similar to kennerd's second one.I do find that particular pattern seems to be sensitive to stong lighting.I have recently seen them listed by something other than "teardrop" at Reef Science and at Clams Direct.
I also think some of my Croceas are coming from Vietnam. All are healthy.
