should have glass next week!
you are very welcome:D
i will post a few picture when all done.
landy

To those of you following along on my journal, Landy took the original tank that was broken during shipping off of my hands. I'm very excited that the sister of my tank is getting brought back to life. Landy, I think you will really love the tank once it's repaired. The size of the tank is turning out to be exactly what I was after.

It looks very clean and sexy. I'm completely impressed.

Hookup - Thanks for the compliment. Clean, sexy, impressed! I'm pleased with that assessment. Thank you!

The aquarium is coming along very nicely. Were the pictures of the tank taken with only the T5s lit?

Orcrone - The pictures were taken with just one of the banks of T5's running. The two bulbs that were on during the photos were the KZ Figi Purple and the Geisemann Actinic +. The other bank of T5's and the MH's were not on during the photo. I'm only running my MH's for 2 hours right now. I'm slowing increasing the photo period by 10 minutes per week. I'm trying to prevent an algae bloom while the tank is cycling.

Just saw this and read the whole thing! Amazing build quality and detail. Great explanations as to whats going on.

One concern I saw was that you put a chack valve in on the return line. These do cut flow out of the pump as well over a few months time seem to not work. Meaning simply stay in an open position when you'd want it to close. So if you are using it to prevent back siphoning or flooding then you may want to incorporate something else.

Wow...nice build Urbaneks...your scapping remind me to Tigahboy tank in NR..i wonder where he is right now...:)

Subscribe !!

lilopop11 - Thanks for the view and comments. Your post made me go look up Tigahboy's tank up but all the photos were no longer in his photo bucket. While on NR, I took a detour over to your tank and it looks great. It would appear that you've been bit by the SPS bug. I hope to have similar success with my new tank.

110galreef - Thanks for taking the time to read my journal, I always like it when people appreciate the detail I try to include in my updates.

As for the check valve, I used a commercial grade valve used in large irrigation systems. What would you recommend?

Well, If you are using to prevent back siphoning and an overflow:

Either make sure to run practices with it often and replace when it remotely seems to not perform like new. You mentioned you have an industrial version so it may work better and last longer than the typical hobby grade one most online fish places sell.

Or remove it completly so you have full flow and nothing mechanical to fail. Then if you need to stop backflow sooner to prevent overflowing sump, you can drill small holes in your return plumbing just below the water line in your tank. This will break the siphon on the return lines very quick and prevent alot less back siphon.

Hope this makes sensse:hammer:

Urbaneks, your tank looks great, and it's just the beginning.

Great planning, great attention to details, great design solutions, great aesthetics... This tank has got it all. Also i really like the way you document this thread.

I wish to congratulate you and wish you all the best.

Regards, Dainius

What kind of sand are you using? i like the look of it seems nice

Bigcefa - My sand bed is Special Grade Reef Sand made by CarribSea. I used the Agra-Live but it also comes in a dry version. I prefer the Agra-Live as it does not have to be rinsed for hours and hours not to mention you get some good bacteria right from the start. I'm very happy with the choice, I would definitely recommend it.

110galreef - Thanks again for providing your input. The valve gets tested daily when I put the tank into feed mode. I will use this as the frequent tests to ensure it's working properly.

dainisuiva - Thanks for the very kind words on my my tank and I'm glad the format on the journal is working out. I've seen a couple other journals on here that structured their responses and updates similar to what I'm doing. Wish the idea were mine but I'm just copying what I've seen and liked.

Great FTS

Great FTS

I just emailed my wife a copy of your FTS. This is the look I'd like for my next tank, but she doesn't want a hanging light fixture. Your Photo may change her mind.

check up the good work!

ohh the tank is looking good,
amazing how clean it looks on top of the stand.
I am in the process of a 120 build now and am very inspired by your stand and am making a equipment board similary to yours. which will hopefully make it baby proof

if you ever need to get to the back of the board do you just unscrew it and pull it out or? im making mine on a door so i can open it up and access any plugs i need to.

Showed the wife some pics and she wants to put the tank in a living area vs the basement, though we are probably moving in the near future and selling a house and fish tank dont go well together. but once we get to the new house all bets are off.

Any thoughts on the stocking list yet (fish, corals etc)

Sorry if this is answered already but is this tank a custom one-off built by Cadlights or do they have more?

needmore-reef - Hope the photo of my tank helped your cause with the wife. One of the things I have grown to appreciate about the light is the temperature control. My light is 11 inches off the water and my tank hits 79 degrees with the MH's on. The only thing I'm running to cool the tank is a ceiling fan. I keep my tank between 78 and 78.5 the rest of the day so the extra half degree with my MHs is not bad at all.

Der ABT - I mounted the board to the stand with some small brackets and zip ties. When I need to get to the back of the board, I just cut the zip ties on one side and I can get to the back. Once I've completed my work, I just re-zip tie it.

As for the stocking, it has started, I have a few SPS frags in the tank along with a McCoskers Flasher Wrasse, Tail Spot Blenny and a pair of clown fish. I really need to get some new photos posted but I'm waiting for my EVC MH bulbs. The Geisemann came with some very white bulbs, I''m not a big fan.

tqpolo - This is a custom tank built by Cadlights however there is not much custom about it. The tank is 48x30x18 with a corner overflow. If I were to do it again, I would get a different overflow. Not sure what but I'm not crazy about the film on top of the water that never seems to get surface skimmed.

Nice build, you really have taken a lot of time to think this build out the right way. I have the same skimmer you have and I hate the noise it puts out. How did you get that coupler piece for the outlet? Did you just call them and ask for the part? I don't have that piece with my skimmer.
