VIPARSPECTRA Timer 165W LED Aquarium Light VS. Arctic-T247 120W LED Aquarium Light

Looking to purchase either unit for my Reef Tank not sure is this topic has been debated before but I just want to know the Pro's and Con's of each unit. I will be keeping LPS, Softies and some SPS. Thanks I will be needing two units tank is 48x24x12. Not sure if any other units on the market in similar price have the same features. Looking for built in timer and adjustable intensity for the Blues and Whites.

Very likely both are made by the same company in China. I know for a fact that the OR T247 is and the ViparSpectra looks just like several other black box fixtures made by them. There isn't much difference between them IMHO except for their looks and the fact that the T247 has the leds spread out over a slightly bigger footprint.

but overall they're both good units for the money and long term reliability? looks like your leaning towards T247

They are China led's so its tough to comment on the long term reliability. Many of these fixture's are made to go bad, throw away and buy new since they are so cheap.

Funny, I have a 3 fixtures from China that look just like the ViparSpectra and an Ocean Revive S026 (from before the T247) that after 6 years of non-stop use were still doing great when I switched because they didn't fit my new tanks. I'll wager very few people have expensive fixtures that have been running that long either... because none of them have been around that long.

And yes they are less expensive, but IMHO they work just as well as the expensive fixtures at the thing we all want them to do, keep and grow coral!

If they are going to be exposed (no inside a canopy) I'd much rather look at the OR fixture. It's slimmer and has curved surfaces. I also like the bigger array of leds (not more leds, just spread out over a bigger footprint) which helps reduce shadows a bit.

They have the same leds and both will grow coral. I've had a T247 over my frag tank ever since they first came out (I got one of the very first units) and it still works great.

I know it has an aluminum case not steel and it has a real heat sink inside. I can't say for sure the ViparSpectra has either. How do the prices compare?

The prices are close for each unit, I do like the sleeker look of the OR and spread out LEDs...thx for the advice. Any sites you recommend in purchasing the OR's ?
