viper vs sunpod?

ok...which fixture is better and why? I am dead even split between AP and a NC so either way its gonna be a 24g with open top. Nanocustoms has 24g NC for $299 with a 150w 14k MH and drsfostersmith.com has the 24g AP with 70w sunpod for same price? which to get?? dilemas...dilemas....

I know most will say that the 150w settles the dilema but i dont wanna get a higher wattage if the fixture is crap anyhow.....besides more watts just means more heat and i think 70w is fine if i use 14k bulb

but 70 watts on a 24 is inadequate unless you're going with low light softies.

a 70watt Metal halide is fine on a 24 gallon for pretty much anything except the stuff that needs tons of light. The 150 would be much better though.

As for it only being good for low light softies, low light softies can grow on the light that comes through the windows in the room and hits the corals. A 70w metal halide directly over it is a lot more light.

If hard corals can survive in a 5 gallon with a 70w metal halide, they can survive in a 100 gallon under that same light, as long as they are the same distance away.

i have the aquapod 24 with 70 watt halide, i am very pleased with it. i was growning a few monti cpas, tons of zoos, and mushrooms, a few blastos and an acan lord before the crash or last week happened. i would say the aquapod is the best choice

70 watts in a hood right above water is fine. Viper would require 150 but most people in the know not happy with viper. There have been many recent threads about the viper. Take the time to read them.

i want the sunpod 150 but drsfostersmith.com wont upgrade....only nanocustoms will and thier charging 100 bux more for just the 70w version than drsfostersmith.com. i can imagine what they want for a 150w sunpod AP combo....probably like 500 bux. I may just have to use the 20L i have sitting in closet and get t-5s for it.

Can you just purchase the tank from nanocustoms and then get the SunPod 150w? I think that nanocustoms sell replacement tanks (AquaPod 24g is like 93 bucks). The SunPod 150w I think is $250.

I bought my Aquapod with a 150w Sunpod. I just asked them to put it on in place of the 70w if I pay the difference and they didnt care. Just call them.

According to the manufacturer of the Aquapod and Sunpod, Current USA, they have started delivering the 24g Aquapod with the 150w Sunpod since the last week of June. The item number is 7055 and your local distributor can probably get it.

they must have worked out the heat issues with the 150w. i know when i went to buy mone, the 150 wasnt availbale anymore becaus eof a problem with overheating. so i settled for the 70 watter. now i think i mihgt upgrade to a 150 fixture and use the 70 for the nano cube i have sitting in the garage.

We have the 150w viper on a 24g NC and have had no problems. We did upgrade the bulb to a Phoenix 14K. I know some of the issues people have been having is with the stock bulb.

I bought a 70W viper for my 24 gallon Nano. I sure didn't like the stock bulb. I noticed that not everything was growing as well as it should, so I moved to a Finnex 18'' 150 Mh with 2-18'' PC's. I love the look and everything in the tank is doing great. I put the viper on the 20 gallon I got. But nothing in there yet.
