Hi all,

My friend and myself are holidaying in florida, (orlando and key largo areas), from the 19th till 8th May and i was wondering if their are any LFS worth a visit while their, I plan in having a look in sea in the city, but is their anywhere else worth a visit?
would love to be able to take home some zoe's, rics, blasto's, or any unusual LPS, so if anyone is selling frags i would be very interested.
thanking u in advance for any input,

Mandy and Hazel

If you click my little red house i have a list of the local stores that I enjoy i hope that might help

Sea in the city is absolutely wonderful and could probably fulfill lots on your list!

Have you figured out how to be able to take the coral home with you? I'm not sure how transporting it works from here to there?

Hi Chrisstie,
thanks for the reply, i've printed out the links.
I plan to have a few small sealable containers and some filter wool to protect, only planning on getting a few small things, they should be ok for the12hrs or so transport if i can arrange to pick up on the way to the airport anyway, a lot shorter time than sending stuff via our royal mail! so fingers crossed will be fine.

Most stores here (sitc, ocean direct, ocean blue) are used to customers from overseas taking some goodies back home. They should pack it up in little styro packages to check in as baggage for you guys. No problem at all. I have heard of the prices on fish/corals in the UK - this will be like shopping at wholesalers for you guys over here!

excellent! so probably no need to take container then?

I would bring one just in case. It's better to have one and not need it, rather than need one and not have it.
You can bring along one of those blue rics for me. I saw it in you tank shots. LOL.

Hey, you should definitely come to our club meeting if you'll be here the last Saturday of April. it will be held at Sea in the City(mentioned above), so not only will you be able to see her selection of corals, but you will also be able to meet all the really great people of ORCA. They are really just so very nice and helpful and I'm sure you'll go back to England with a few new friends:).

Here's information on April's meeting:

I highly recommend coming to the meeting if you are available during this time, but if not, I still highly recommend going to that store...SITC is awesome and so is the owner Marcye.

I just noticed that the meeting does overlap with your travel date - we would love to have you and welcome guests, it would be amazing to meet an overseas reefer. For a hobby we are all so enthusiastic about the selections available in different areas of the world vary so greatly it really would be so interesting to meet!

Craig has a great point so hopefully we will see you there if it fits into your plans :)

Also if you are looking for anything interesting or fun to do around Orlando let us know us locals know a few neat places to check out :)

thanks so much for the kind reply's, hexedagain - will pack a couple of suitable containers just in case, thanks.
Chrisstie - will definitely come to the meeting, Hazel my friend has agreed to come with me although she doesn't keep a reef, she is a diver though.
would bring some frags with to swap if anybody interested, would need to make firm arrangements though. We have booked into the magic castle in Kissammee, and would have to met up soon after landing.
would love to see any of your reef systems while we're their.
Also any inside information on where to go and what to do would be great, we have bought the 14 day WDW ultimate ticket and the bush sea world tickets, would like to see a couple of the dinner shows as well.
I would like to do some shopping as well so a pointer the the best shopping areas would be great, especially if they cater for the larger lady, lol.
If u take a look at ultimatereef.com in the Scottish reefers site, u will see that we meet fairly often at each others houses to ogle each others settups, being in Scotland we are always at the the end of the que for any nice corals etc. but have got a fairly good network growing and distributing what we have around our members
sorry for the long post, but i'm getting very excited now! Florida holiday and a reef meeting!!
Off to bed now but will check back tomorrow.

Wow, will be nice to meet you!!!

Are Red Whart Anemones colelcted near where you live? Those are awesome!! lol. Anything else you guys have that is locally collected that we are unable to get here? Just interested in things that come from different regions of the world....and always looking for those rare anemones nobody else wants :)

We also have an awesome frag auction at every meeting!!! You could definately make out with some nice stuff from those!! There is usually around 100 pieces for sale!

Beware, I am going to bid 3$ for every single piece offered. lol

Hi, didn't get to bed yet, lol
sytanek - what are Red Whart Anemones?, our waters are fairly cold -2c to 14 degrees celcius in the summer, so unless u are planning a temperate reef won't survive, we have experimented with some of the local shrimps though and they seem to survive in the warm tropical water, nothing else though.

I would definitely check out Sea in the city. Marcye's shop is always a blast to browse around in. Aquarium fanatics is also a nice store.

There are a ton of outlet stores in the Orlando area, not to mention a ton of places to shop.
Between the corals and clothes, you better bring a nice chunk of change.
