Ive been dosing vodka for 1 1/2 weeks, my friend just gave me a new unused phosban reactor, my question is can or should I use both until my phos is 0 or near 0. MY phos are at .5 right now. Thanks for the imput.:D

If you are getting trying to get your phosphates to go down, then I don't see why not.

From what I understand, Vodka dosing is a really powerful way to reduce Nutrients including phosphates. Using a P04 remover will reduce the P04 to a point to which the chemistry will kill off the Zooxanthellae in the coral. Doing this will keep the coral from being able to support nutrients for itself.

Should you run it? I don't know, I've not even tried vodka dosing yet.

Been doing it for close to a year without a PO4 reactor and still undetectable levels. I've even shut down my refugium. $10 bottle of 750ml cheap vodka lasts about 2 months so that's approx. $60/year.

Compare that to the GFO replacement every few months, electricity to run the feed pump and my refugium lighting and it becomes a no brainer in this economy.. any economy. Not to mention the constance pain of maintenence of the reactor (taking it apart every month). I have the first of the TLFs 10 plastic screws version. I also clean my glass way less and water is crystal clear. HTHs.
