I just need to know if I should continue dosing vodka while trying to get rid of hair algae. The HA in my tank is everywhere and I stopped dosing vodka for the time being just to ensure I wasnt feeding it. Please help, would like to clear this stuff up asap.

That's the reason to start dosing vodka. It takes the nutrients that the HA needs for survival. Vodka is a slow process, though. It can take a few months for it to ramp up to the level needed.

I've been dosing for a month to help get rid of HA. If you want a quicker solution, look into AlgaeFix Marine. There's a good thread about it in the Chem. forum. I'm on my third dose of that, too.

A few changes I've also made to help;

-Rinse frozen food
-New Bulbs
-Better Skimmer
-Cut back lighting
-Cut back feeding
-Purchase a Sea hare

I've finally gotten ahead of it I think. I returned the sea hare last week as the food supply was getting low. I still have some limited growth but nowhere near the tufts of grass I had on the rocks before.

Good luck

I'm vodka dosing now... and it is quite a long and arduous process. Click on my red house, I've been documenting it on my blog.
I am going on just over a month and the hair algae is turning dark colors and starting to go away.
I also used MicroBacter 7 to establish a good bacterial base in the system and to supplement the vodka dosing. All is well right now and I'm starting to win the battle that was really getting me into a funk. Stick with it... It will pay off. If you don't like it, there are other options.

Im dosing too...tank starting to do great...crystal clear water and polyp expansion has been sensational...

However my Acro started bleaching and i just cut down on the dosage and its recovering well....Watch that Alk...
