By the way...has ANYONE heard from Spazz? I have had a number of people pm me about issues they have had with these units and now NONE of them can get a hold of Spazz. Seems funny he has "disappeared".

I haven't needed to contact Spazz since getting my skimmer a couple of months ago, so I don't know the current situation. However, when I was waiting to get my skimmer from him (20+ months) there were numerous times when I couldn't get a hold of him for a week or two. In the end he came through and delivered the skimmer.

Last I heard, he was in the middle of changing his business structure. I think he was adding additional people in order to speed up production. Hopefully, they will also help with the customer support.

All of the current talk has worried me about continued custom support on my unit. After spending a fortune on a quality skimmer, I would hate to have a problem, and need to get a replacement part, and be unable to get a hold of Spazz. Most of the people running these skimmers have 50+ fish in their systems. If their skimmers go out, it would not be good for a heavily stocked sps tank.

You have brought up some good points that I think have concerned a number of us here. The lack of response from Spazz has not given me a level of trust that I was expecting. My tank has fallen way below a level I never hoped for. Now I am in need of product support that at this point is nonexistant. Perhaps once I install the air pump (which again was mentioned by Spazz a piece I was not going to need) it will correct the problem. However if something goes down in the future who do I go to for a solution if the owner of the company has seperated himself from his customers? I contacted Spazz at least a month ago and since then numerous other times by both phone and email with no response. Even if he is busy I find it hard to believe he is "that busy". Funny how when I was purchasing the skimmer he got back to me in a day or two and now since I paid the balance he is no where to be found.

has anyone messed with the gate valve before the pump to see if that helped with any of the lack luster performance?
Yep. Didn't do much for me. Might be a device that works better when the air density is better but I don't know that for sure.

I had the same experience. Changing the gate valve didn't make much difference.

I think it helped mine. I barely closed it and it is producing a lighter dryer foam.keep that in mind when you get your air pump.

Tom do you have a pic of the PW that is on your Volcano? Or did you get a chance and look at it? I believe wizsmaster said his had a stock Orca pin wheel.

Here is a shot of the stock Orca PW on the left. It is a black disk with square Pins.

I don't have a pic but I just took a look and I can tell you what I have. The needlewheel has 3 circles of pins from the center going out towards the edge of the wheel. The 2 inner circles have taller pins and the outside row is shorter. Does this make sense?

i have the 1875

Can you tell me what the air inlet looks like? That is if you take apart your return pipe from the bottom box of the skimmer to the pump and look at where the air intake pipe enters the pump return pipe is your inlet pipe cut at like a 30 degree angle?

hmmmmm.......Im shopping for a big skimmer.......500 gallon tank, 700 gallon system....

I didnt read all of this thread, but I read some things that didnt sound so good. :( Sorry to hear Tom. good luck with reaching resolve.

Should a Volcano be a consideration?? Or should it be just between Reeflo and BK??

I would strongly suggest somthing other than a Volcano.

i could have missed, did the air pump help you solve the problem?
i am also on the market for a new skimmer.
currently thinking between volcano 1250, BK SM 250 or octopus xtreme 300

The air pump should arrive today and I should get it on the skimmer. I will post here on my findings.

The construction of the volcanos is very nice and solid. However, the 1850 I received has not worked well since I have gotten it. It pulls less air than my old Deltec 902 even though it is roughly 4 times the size and has caused my tank to fall to a new low level (coral recession and death). Spazz did send me new parts which did nothing to solve the air density issue. Now I can not get a hold of him for over a month of trying. Others will also tell you he is "unreachable". I would STRONGLY suggest going with somethng more mainstream and with a proven track record.

I brought back some Prodobio from MACNA for you Tom, if you would like to try it out. If not, well... no biggie... then Ill just save it for myself! But I told ze French what was going on with your tank, and from the inventor/scientist himself, they gave me two products to use. gcarrol (Greg) was also there and after I told him what was going on, he agreed... use a little Prodobio to restart the tank (he uses it, and the corals he was selling were SOLD OUT by Sunday... more than many other vendors can say...lol. I was actually shocked when they only tried to sell me two products to last someone with a 500g about 2 months... they didnt try to push the 'whole system' on me or anything. Very cool.

Not to mention, look what MRC brought with them...
