Vortech DIY Battery Backup

I'm running 25-30% as my normal speed (dual MP40's in a 75gal), so if it increased the speed when the power goes out, that doesn't really help me.

It helps, gives you a 75gal blender....:clown:
Sorry, it switches to 50% of whatever your current speed setting is.

Page 28 of 44 in the manual. You can set the percentage. Read up.

Then this, sounds like its not even 50% of the current setting. Its the lowest speed, as if you turned the dial all the way down.

Battery Backup Mode
When a battery backup accessory is added to the VorTech pump, the pump will automatically switch to Battery Backup mode during a
power outage. The pumps will run at the minimum speed to maximize their run time during this critical period.

If the battery is replaced with another one that has a higher capacity, would Belkin's self test mode still works? I'm guessing that the unit's circuitry is designed to test for the original 7ah. When a higher capacity battery is used..... let's say 14ah..... the battery can be already failing at 10ah, but since it is still far higher than the original, so the test circuit wouldn't be able to see the problem?

Test it and see what happens. I don't think there would be a problem.

Will try to bump this thread thanks to Flananuts...

Can anybody daisy chain these Belkins Battery backups and if yes, what is needed???

Thanks in advance...

Does anyone have an update on these things? Do they still work? How long did the battery last?

It seems so silly that these would be available for $50 total cost and ecotech is charging almost $200 for theirs.

I really wish the images werent dead here.

Im getting the following supplies. Can anyone tell me if I missed something ...

2 Belkin Units (buying used through amazon for $18 with shipping included)

2x 3' Male to Male 2.1mm x 5.5mm
http://www.amazon.com/Valley-2-1mm-5-5mm-Power-Adapter/dp/B00GPVWRRC

DC Power Splitter Cable 5.5x2.1mm Female To 2 2.1mm Female Adapter
http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/300931464519?lpid=82&chn=ps&ul_noapp=true

2x DC Power 5.5mm x 2.1mm Female to 3.5mm x 1.35mm Male Converter Plug
http://www.amazon.com/SODIAL-Power-...&keywords=3.5x1.35mm+Male+to+5.5x2.1mm+Female

These are using the newest links on amazon and ebay (ebay had dead links prior) I will also try and get pictures together that are actually posted on this forum instead of imageshack .

Haven't been on here in a while, sorry!

This backup system is still working flawlessly! I've had several power outages since install 3 years ago and they have always kicked on and ran the MP40's at 50% power. Longest outage was 6 hrs, but I expect them to run 20+ as I have 2 Belkin's per MP40. I will try to update pics in the next few days, don't know why they blinked out.

This has proven to be a very good alternative to the WAY over priced Vortech BU power supplies and is of better quality and reliability!

Could you explain what each of these items listed above are for? I am planning on doing this as well and I appreciate the time you took to document everything here, but I am not sure I am following what each one of these parts that you are buying from ebay and amazon are for or how they all connect together to make it work.

Thanks!

I can help there. This should help you break it down for better understanding:

Wall plug ----> Belkin battery backup Model #BU3DC001-12v ----> Extension cable (If needed) ---> 3 way splitter(If you want to run multiple devices off one belkin) (http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/300931464519?lpid=82&chn=ps&ul_noapp=true) ----> Converters to adapt them to Vortech(s) (http://www.amazon.com/SODIAL-Power-...&keywords=3.5x1.35mm+Male+to+5.5x2.1mm+Female)

It all depends on how far you need to run the line to the vortech controller. In my case the Belkin cord was long enough so my adaptor is only 5-6 inches in total. What a great and wicked simple DIY

The extension cables or multiple extension cables (depending on if you use them before or after the splitter), just extend the range of the cable from the belkin to the vortech(or any other device your are powering). This is before you adapt the cable down to a barrel that the vortech accepts.

That said, I just realized that the cable posted wont work. That is a male to a male. To be an extension, it must be a female to a male. Like these: http://www.amazon.com/CY-Extender-F...words=3'+Male+to+Male+2.1mm+x+5.5mm+to+female

All other information applies.

Thanks! I am follow,but.....one more question. When you refer to "Extension cable" is that this: 2x 3' Male to Male 2.1mm x 5.5mm
http://www.amazon.com/Valley-2-1mm-5.../dp/B00GPVWRRC

This is the cable that goes from the battery backup to the splitter or adaptor converters depending on what you are doing?

Thanks!

Vortech DIY Battery Backup

I'm glad we're getting traction in here again. I just ordered the cables I thought I would need. With most of the links dead and pics gone it was a guessing game for some of them.

I got the y splitter because I thought that's what I needed to connect two belkins to one MP10. I thought the male to male extension would go from the y splitter to the male reducer into the MP10.
