Vortech Location on 6ft SPS tank

I have a 72x24x22 tank, I started with 2 MP40's one on each end. I just added a third one.

I was curious if it would be best to put the 3 pumps on the back wall facing forward instead of on the sides for better flow on the tank?

Curious what you guys/gals suggest.

Vortechs don't need to be tilted. They have a very wide flow pattern.

OP: if you want to use the EcoSmart programs (nutrient transport mode, etc) the way EcoTech Marine intended, you should place one MP40 on each side and one on the back. The ES modes require one pump on the back glass. You also designate one pump as the master, and the rest as slaves, then you also designate their position in the tank, either on the back glass, or on the same side as the master or the opposite side of the master.

I would probably have the pumps maybe 6-8 inches below water level, about midway front to back on the sides, and as high as you could get it for the pump on the back glass without it sucking air from the water surface.

That should give you enough flow if the SPS are small. As they get larger, you might want to consider either adding another 40 to each side, or upgrading to MP60s on the right and left.

I have a 465 gallon SPS tank, and I have three MP60s on the left and three on the right. I don't worry about pump placement so much with this much flow. The tank is BB and stays very clean with all the movement.

72X30WX24 here. Sides and center back wall. I have a gap in middle of my rockwork.
I have them on antisync mode. Before I had two on one end and one other the other in sync mode. It made a huge difference after I put one on the middle back and switched to antisync.
