OK want to upgrade the powerheads to Vortech I need advice which model MP10 or MP40? Tank is 72"x18"x18" going to put two heads one on each end. Have a 950 GHP return and 40 gal sump. keeping all kinds of corals LPS, SPS and softies. Second where to buy????

Pretty sure you will need the 40s for that size tank. As for where to buy, it appears that all dealers adhere to VorTech's strict price controls and sell at MSRP, only. I recently purchased a pairs of 10s and spent a lot of time price shopping and was unable to find anyone selling below MSRP. On the brightside, VorTech really stands behind the product. I had a problem with mine and called customer service. Within minutes the rep said they would send me a new pair and that I would receive them in 2 days, which I did. They even included a prepaid shipping label and never asked for proof of purchase, etc.
One of those times that you actually get what you pay for.

Earlier today I wanted to ask, what does a used MP10 go for these days? I think an MP10 would be okay in my 46.....Anyways, what sort of substrate do you have? I have a Petsmart powerhead and a Korillia Nano, no sump, and can't seem to even remove DOM from my rocks, let alone provide enough flow to keep my corals happy. If I had the money, i'd go with two MP40's just because they are THE go to powerhead. Some people can be wrong, but not millions....

LOL true true, there are millions of kids out there that think Justin Beiber is good music! I'd like to think that at least us Aquarists know what we are talking about when it comes to the tried and tested MPs. :) I think if Newsalth2o can see Oscar's tank, he would be convinced that MP40s are the way to go! LOL

I have had both the 10 and the 40. I think the 40 is too much flow with out being able to direct. The 40 was in my 180 (5 foot) and I had to turn it down do to burning SPS, agian this was from not being able to direct flow. The 10 would be too small for your glass thickness. I run the 10 on my 40 gallon and love it :)

Looks like the 40s are winning out. How about the were to buy? Saw a deal on marinedepot for two 40s and a battery backup for $1k. Where else?

I got all of mine on the used forum. $300 bucks each and found the battery for $100 you just have to be patient and quick because at that price they go very fast
