Vortech MP40 wet side magnet distorted?

I recently purchased a used MP40 and it had a terrible shake upon installing it on the tank.

When de-coupled, the dry side is quiet so I put the wet side from my other MP40 on the new dry side, while on the tank, and the pump is quiet so I inspected the wet side to find that the magnet had high spots that were rubbing the wet frame cover.

I also noticed that when manually rotating the wet side magnet, it is out-of-round, causing a wobble from it being unbalanced.

Has anyone ever heard of the wet side magnet distorting this way?

You can order a new magnet assembly for the wetside on Ecotech's website. My MP10 had a nasty amount of rust and flaking from the magnet, 25 dollars later, I had a new magnet for the wetside.

I don't know how much it would be for a MP40

Since you're in there, get the maintenance kit too..Which you should do roughly every year to make sure they are operating top notch.

2 of my 4 used MP40's had the silver distorted magnets. Those were the first issued ones I believe. They have been replaced with the black ones which yet to have any issues (at least that I have seen).

It sounds as though there was some rubbing of the wet frame on the magnet, which typically occurs when there is too much magnetic pressure by an incorrect pin spacer setting.

Definitely give our service dept. a call at 1-800-785-0338 ext. 2 and they'll help to get you back up and running ASAP.
