Vortech MP40W users? new owner here-Quick question

I have a 90 gallon mixed reef. SPS on top and zoos and lps everywhere else. My sps aren't big colonies-mostly smaller frags. My question is, in what mode are most people using the vortech? Is the reef crest the best option because of its sporadic flow? Just curious how most people use it. So far, I like it a lot.

At the moment I'm using lagoon mode at 100%, it seems to be more flow overall. I do like reefcrest as well though.

iam running reef crest anti sync...

but my buble coral hates the flow...so i am turned down substantially...not sure what to do onthis one.....

Just remember anti-sync doesn't work on reefcrest and lagoon mode. The pumps in anti-sync will run just as the master pump does in these two modes.

Anti-sync means the pump runs opposite of the master pump. Works on pulse modes only.

When you have two MP40W pumps they can be set up in a master/slave configuration and they communicate wirelessly with each other. You then have the option of running the slave in synchronized or anti synchronized mode with the master pump. In synchronized mode the slave will run at the same speed as the master and in anti sync mode the slave will do the opposite. In anti sync when the master is at 100%, the slave will be at idle.

I run mine on Lagoon mode at almost 100%. I too have a large bubble coral, but only 1 MP40 so I have it at the other end of the tank. I played around with the pump placement and found that higher created less undertow current around the bubble and it liked it better. The sps at the top liked it better too. Love the MP40 and will consider a 2nd down the road, but I think that would mean getting rid of the bubble which I've had for over 10 years.

Anti-sync and sync modes work just fine in reef crest and lagoon modes. You just need to set a master and then set a slave(s) pump. This is why you don't need an alternating wave device when using MP40Ws.

Per EcoTech's manual:

Lagoon Random Mode
When a pump is in Lagoon Random Mode, the dial is used to set the maximum operational speed, and the driver will automatically randomize the pumps output to simulate a low energy lagoon reef environment. If this pump is a master, the associated slave pumps will replicate the master in sync or anti-sync modes.
Reef-Crest Random Mode.

When a pump is in Reef-Crest Random Mode, the dial is used to set the maximum operational speed, and the driver will automatically randomize the pumps output to simulate a high energy reef-crest environment. If this pump is a master pump, the associated slave pumps will replicate the master in sync or anti-sync modes.

The pumps will REPLICATE the master in sync or anti-sync mode with reefcrest or lagoon mode. Anti-sync does not work in these modes as it does with the pulse modes.

WRONG! Anti-Sync works great on my 2xMP40's in both Reef Crest and Lagoon modes.

hate to disagree, but I do, though this wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong... From my observations and reading of the manuals.

Anti-Sync in one of those modes would mean as one pump is ramping up the other is running down, basically doing the opposite of what the master is doing...

This is not the case as far as I can observe, nor is it the case as the manual points out, though rather unclearly I guess.

Putting your pumps into anti-sync mode, and into lagoon or reefcrest mode does NOT cause the pumps to NOT work, or not function... but they are both randomly going through their modes... they are not following each other, nor are they polar opposites of each other.

Yes wrong, they can be sync and anti sync..

The pumps will REPLICATE the master in sync or anti-sync mode with reefcrest or lagoon mode. I believe this is the sentence that says that right here. Change replicate to copy
