vortech overkill?

Would it be over kill if I put a vortech in a 30x18x20? I got a good deal on a brand new one but don't have a big tank. Is this overkil?

The Vortech is fully adjustable for speed/flow, so I wouldn't say it's overkill, you just need to dial in the flow that you require. If I understand correctly, the new pump (MP20) has the same footprint, i.e. it's physically the same size. Plus it has fewer features. I have my MP40W mounted on the side. I guess it really depends a lot on your rockwork or coral placement as to where the best place to mount it is.

I have a Vortech on a 30" tank and it works great. I have it on a lower setting, so I may not be using it to it's max capability, but I'm still glad I got one.

One of the locals here (not Chem-E ) has a vortech on a 10g tank! (Now that I'd call overflow) but whatever man, they're adjustable

It is on the back in the center about 3" from the surface. Not set at min. speed either
