Just got an mp40 and was wondering what mode or setting others found most benifitial

It depends on what animals you are trying to keep. I like tidal swell. They are all good IMO.

I like the reef-crest mode or the nutrient transport mode. Next equipment upgrade, maybe I should get the WXM module for the Apex so I can switch between those modes automatically.

I have (2) on a 220. I use Lagoon on 1 and then pulse on the other. Seems to give the tank a real random flow. Might be really strong, then nice and quiet. Plus, I like to see the anthelia and such sway back and forth. One minute its left, and then the next its right. Looks real natural.

With the Apex and the WXM module, you can program the Vortechs to switch modes throughout the day, for specified lengths of time. For instance, 9AM to 11AM = reef crest mode, 11:01AM to 2PM = lagoon mode, 2:01PM to 5PM = Nutrient Transport mode, and so on. Of course, you can do the same thing manually with the Vortech controller, but the Apex/WXM allows for more flexibility and programming.

Oh, and you can also vary intensities with the WXM programming, such as reef crest 80% for a specified time, then reef crest 40% in the evening hours, etc...

Today I just picked up an mp10 for $150 so now I have it and 1 mp40 on my 4x2x2 120gal mixed reef, just waiting for my lfs to get more mp40s so I can get 1 more than I should def be good on flow

I use reef crest as well on the 75 using 2 mp40es w pumps. I have one set as the master and the slave on antisync mode and love it.

Reefcrest and NTM, but unfortunately they dont sound awesome. All 3 that i've tried pretty loud but I just turn up the volme on my TV
