Vortech Powerhead questions

Are these powerheads directional? From all the pics I have seen they don't look like they are. Are there any powerheads out there where the cable can be outside AND are directional?

Thanks

No they are not directional, but most users say it is completely unneccesary....others will say it would be a nice feature. No other powerhead is like them. A closed loop could have directional outlets and have no cords, I doubt that is what you are interested in.

Tunze are directional but are generally larger than their Vortech counterparts...
Personally I own the MP10 Vortechs and I have no need for a directional pump as the water current in my tank is terrific...just ask my growing corals :p

There is ZERO need for them to be directional. The flow is so broad that the whole tank receives flow.

To answer number 2, NO. There is no other powerhead on the market where the cord is on the outside of the tank. Not that I have seen at least. Ecotech has a patent on the whole thing. You won't be seeing any competition for a while!

Except the spots toward the back of the tank behind rock work. I have a tunze on the back wall pointed sideways.

When I was running 2 Vortechs, I didn't have this problem. Mine were on opposite sides of the tank. One was front of center and the other rear of center. The gyre that was created got into every part of my tank.

With vortechs theres flow all through the tank it is not needed to direct them anywhere. Its just the perfect pump..lol

vortech is a great pump. no need for directional flow. the flow is very wide. i love the control and flow i am getting w my mp40s.

The main reason I asked was that I would love to put some of them on the bottom of the tank so the wires are totally hidden in the stand. I don't think I want the water flow going straight up. Guess closed loop is the only option for that.

the only way the water flow is going to go straight up is if you put you vortech on the bottom of your tank and aim it straight up.
why exactly would you want to do that???
I suggest you go to the website and see what this pump can do.

I only wanted to do that if they were directional. I wanted a solution where there was nothing on the side of the tank. If they were directional maybe I could stick some on the bottom of the tanks and point the flow at an angle.

I have a 72 gallon Bow Front and my one MP40 give me great water movement throughout the entire tank! These pumps are awsome. I have it mounted on the far left and its under tow is so strong I have to throttle it back to keep from getting a sand storm. Love that the motor is mounted outside the tank as i do not have a chiller, only a fan that blows over the sump. This is by far the only equipment item I purchased that I know for a fact is better than any other out there.
