VorTech QuietDrive upgrade kits

What do the QuietDrive upgrade kits for the VorTech pumps accomplish for you? They don't have much detail on their website.

Is it the full deal, meaning your current ES's will now operate just like a QD, sound and performance improvements inclusive? Or is there a limitation here?

I do see on their website they say: "Upgrades will bring your already great EcoTech product to the next level without having to buy a whole new unit."... but still worth checking.

So how does a new driver make the existing motor and impeller quieter? The noise comes from vibrations in the motor and impeller so without upgraded bearings and balancing I doubt there will be any improvement in noise. Unless of course the new driver just runs your old pump at a slower speed.

Lots of info out there on how they accomplished this. I am not an engineer, but I did stay a Holiday Inn Express last night

I'm under the impression that the new driver drives the motor more smoothly and that is where a large amount of the noise improvement comes from.

At just $50 for the upgrade for my mp10's I would be all in to give it a try except from what I understand the QD will not communicate with my wxm on my apex. This is a deal breaker for me.

Is there a thread on this? Since the QD's use the same radio card as the older style, I would have thought the WXM would still be able to communicate to them.

It's on the ecotechtalk website. Doesn't say specifically about the upgrade kits but it does state that the QD drivers are not compatible. Here is a link. Third paragraph just under the picture of the new pump and driver.

It's right there in the link I posted. It is the only bit of info I have been able to find on the subject. I will ask them directly before I order the upgrade kit.

"We have been informed by EcoTech that QuietDrive will be fully compatible with the WXM at official availability. That said we have not confirmed this yet through our own testing so I guess there is always a chance something might not be there. The moment we test it for ourselves and have it work we will make a post here and/or FaceBook to confirm it is ApexReady." - Terence Fugazzi :: VP Sales and Marketing :: Neptune Systems

That being said, the only thing I am seeing on the Apex site is that the new "Gyre" mode isn't a choice in Apex at this time. But the communication does work fine.
