Vortech Wave??

Would like to know the amount of powerheads required to get a good amount of flow in a 48" X 36" X 24" tank. Is it possible to get a small wave going in a tank of that length and will the wave be effective in suspending debris? Thanks in advance.

For a tank this size you may be just fine with two MP40w's. You can experiment with them in short pulse mode on the same side of the tank in sync mode or on opposite sides of the tank on anti-sync mode. I would think you will have no problems adequately mixing your tank and suspending detritus with two MP40w's.

Thanks a lot Tim. One last question. How do the Vortech pumps compare to a Tunze wavebox? And how do they compare to the new Streams?

Chris-

This questions is probably best asked in a more neutral discussion forum as we are obviously biased here. However, the advantages to our pump are no heat in the water (you'd be surprised how much a large submersible powerhead will actually heat the tank), much smaller in-tank footprint which preserves the beauty of your aquarium, and more controlability out of the box. Lastly, with our pumps you have the ability to run a standing wave or use the pumps for randomized flow through our wireless wave driver. Other devices on the market are either oriented toward making waves or creating laminar currents, not both. As a result of this functionality, our pumps end up costing less than other products because you only need to buy two pumps and you've got everything you need.

Thanks Tim. Last question (I promise). What is the power consumption of one of your pumps. I'm sure i read it somewhere but i cant find the thread.

Chris,

No problem on the questions, that's why we're here. The MP40w consumes 28 watts once broken in at full power in continuous speed mode, or 3200gph.

You actually have a double wave going in that video. You may be able to get a taller one if you slow down the pulse frequency for a single node wave.
