Vortech Whoopsy - Glass Too Thick

Whoops....

So I bought two Vortech MP10ESW units for my 90 gallon cube (30x30x24). Its a custom acrylic from James at Envision. He used 1/2 acrylic all the way around. I guess that according to Vortech the max thickness is 9.5 mm. My tank is almost 12 mm!

I have been having a really hard time lining the motor up with prop. Once I get it lined up, the motor actually rotates itself out of alignment. Shoot.

Not sure if there is any way to still use these, or if I am going to be selling them shortly. :thumbdown

That sucks. Does it transfer the torque?

I know that you can get mp40 pumps to work on 1" by removing the rubber pad and using double sided tape to stick the motor to the glass. Just have to make sure you get it in the right place =P

Might work for the mp10 but 2 mp40 pumps would have been better. Might ask them in their forum here to get an answer. They might have a trick for you.

Oh no! I too have heard of people trying to rig them to work on thicker glass with varying results.
I'm considering adding 2 mp10's to my 65G tank. The glass is 10mm but the Vortech rep said that it should work ok.
Let me know if you have to sell them...
Good luck!

If you thin the acrylic slightly with a strait cutting router bit, you can use them. The only problem with that is you'll have to keep them in the same spot.
