Vortechs on a 67g?

Hi,

I was considering adding 2x mp40w's on my custom 67g tank. Its 36"x24"x18", I was wondering if this would be too much flow and would it blow the sand around? It's also a 3/8" acrylic tank and I've been hearing about the crazing issue with overheated pumps, any news on this?

Thanks!

One MP40w would be fine for your planned aquarium.

As for the crazing "issue," there is only one case where a pump was associated with crazing on an acrylic aquarium and there were some very extenuating circumstances relating to the aquarium itself in that case. The VorTech pump is safe on all properly constructed acrylic aquariums and we have thousands of acrylic customers that will attest to this.

I have a Vortech and Nanostream on a 55 gal and the Vortech is on the lower settings. Having two of them would be crazy flow, but with a sand bed, I think you'll have some sand storms.

Hmm...last few questions:

If I just had one vortech, would I still be able to use the functions (reef crest, lagoon mode, etc) or does that only work with multiple pumps? Also where would be the best location to place a single mp40w in the tank?

Thanks!

You can still use all of the functions with a single pump. The best place to place the pump is dependent on your rock work. Generally the best is on the side of the aquarium.
