vortex diamtom filter

Yep...that is the idea. Will the help quick filter detritus that is blown off the rocks during maintanace?

I've used one for many years. It's great when you do maintenence and cleaning. Just make sure you use the powdered carbon along with the diatomaceous earth. That is the key. It has saved my tank on several occasions when something has gone wrong and the water is polluted. The last time was when I used chemi clean to rid the tank of cyano. I had so much cyano, that when the chemi clean killed it all, the oxygen levels dropped and ammonia spiked. The water clouded up, and my fish were at the top of the water gasping. I threw on the vortex and within 2 hours the water had cleared and the fish recovered. I wouldn't be reefin without my diatom filter!

I have to totally agree with Reefkeeper2. I remember my Dad using one on his SW tank almost 20 years ago. He used it to make the tank's water look better. I think the benefits of this technology are well proven over time and cheap to incorporate into any reef system.
