Walmart Ro/di

does anyone get their ro/di water from walmart? i saw it there the other day while i was going to pick up a few gallons of distilled for my tank.

Many people here on RC do in fact get their water from Walmart. I would check their TDS before using it personally.

I've not seen RO/DI water at wally world. if it is what they say it is it should be fine. what were they charging per gallon?

I used to by my RO water from either the grocery store or Wal-Mart. Until I ordered a TDS meter and tested their water. It was at 89 TDS, my house water out of the faucet was only 121. Needless to say I ordered a RO/DI of my own. It was the best investment I have made. HTH.

I think he means using the Culligan or whatever brand water dispenser at Wal-Mart. I believe it's just RO water and yea, lots of people do get their water there. Like whats been mentioned, get a TDS meter and always measure it. One the first stories I read when I got into this board, was someone filled up with their water and it had something in it that killed off his entire tank (sorry for being so vague, it was a bit ago). Just be cafeful...

Wal-Mart does sell two different processed forms of water in milk jugs. One has a purple label and one has a green label. One form is "Purified" the other is "Purified" with some added minerals. Read the labels. One is RO and DI processed, the other is just RO I think. I can't remember which color is which, but I used one for a long time before I got an RO/DI unit.

I seriously doubt if either is treated with deionization. I suspect they have straight RO and possibly RO that has been remineralized for taste. Given a choice I would pass on both and buy distilled instead if those were my only choices. You may hear people trying to convince you distilled water may contain copper but that has not been true in years. Most distillation units are glass lined stainless steel or the like.

The Walmart distilled water in the gallon jug with the purple cap is fine. I used it for a long time. I tested it with a tds meter and it read 0. I can not speak for the water out of the machine as I have never bought it.

I have also used distilled in the past with no problems.. never did I put a TDS on it though. :/ 89 from purchased RO is scary though, especially when my well produces 91!

im stickin to distilled then. my LFS owner said it is the purest water with nothing in it, you just have to watch out for the copper that it may contain. but he said don't worry cus no one uses copper pipes anymore.

Distilled water is often times stored in metal containers and that metal residuals can be bad for corals. My. $.02

Get your own RO/DI system and you wont have to worry about anything. Come out cheaper in the long run.

I used Wal-Mart 1 gallon jugs for about a year form my 75g main/ 30g sump water changes and topoffs. It use to be .50/gallon, but it's now .65.

I buy water from machines like Windmill @ .30/gallon and some other one, can't remember the name for .25/gallon. The one I can't remember claims 7 different processes and an LCD display shows the last maintenance day, which is usually daily. I have had no probelms other than having to go back and forth. RO/DI will be a worthy investment.
