Did anybody else see today's Sherman Tank email newsletter???

The new Sheridan store is up for sale ($18K plus inventory).

"Present employees are negotiable."

lol....that was a quick turnaround. I hope someone makes a go of it because I'd love to have a LFS near me. Marc just didn't carry much saltwater stuff.

I saw that this afternoon in e-mail as well. I wonder what the employees could be negotiated for? I have some yardwork and planting that need to get done.

Mark is in, then he's out, then he's in, then he's out, then he's back in again, then he's back out again.... too bad. It's a hard business to be in, even more so at the moment.

Summers are always slow...people are thinking about outdoor things, not cooped-up-all-winter indoor hobbies.

Plus, as economic times get hard (or people fear the economic future) they stop spending money on non-essentials. Adding a new aquarium setup (where stores have a chance at making a profit) isn't on anybody's 'gotta do it now!' list when they can't afford to fill the family car or take a vacation.

Even those of us with running systems may decide that they'll wait to add that one additional fish or coral.

Every LFS owner I've talked to recently is hurting. Many are surviving on the maintenance business (if they have one) and I'll bet that goes soft as well as new customers get harder to find.

I'm afraid we'll have more closings by end of year. So, if you have a chance (and money) to support your favorite LFSs with a purchase, this is the time to do it.

What he said...... it's a hard time of year, not including other economic issues currently afoot.
