Want to buy a Powder Blue tang or Purple tang

I am looking to buy a powder blue tang or a purple tang...

I think I will try them out with my two other blue tangs and one yellow tang and see how compatiable they are...

I seen the ones at the stores and well I kind of don't want to risk keeping these fishes...So far with tangs I had a 1/2 survival rate...I guess it's there pinched stomachs or just they came straight from the wild...(so they are all stressed out)...

I rather get a fish that was in someone's tank and not straight from the wild...(probably would fair better than wild specimens)...

Anybody have a powder blue tang or purple tang or pretty much anyother tang for that matter except for Dori and the yellow tangs that I already have...

Any suggestions would be great...

I heard Youreef livestock is good...how do their fish livestock fair...

50 % survival or 100% survival...?

Thanks ...

not to be negative, but I think you're max out on tang. 3 tangs in 125g is too much imo. I would also be worry about your yellow as they are pretty aggressive on new tankmate. But if you have to have another, I would get a purple as the pbt are hard to keep.

My tangs came from yourreef and all did well.

everybody seems to be doing fine and my parameters are all good...

I really think it's the live rock....

Loup would you recommend a larger purple tang or a smaller one than my current yellow...

I heard that puprple tangs are more aggresive than yellows...

Ohh would anybody know if anthias are a good fish to have...with tangs...perhaps like a small school of them (3)...

thanks for the suggestions...

Purple, yellow, pbt are very agressive. I would suggest taking out the yellow before putting a new tang in or use a mirror so that the yellow spends more time harrassing its own reflection and letting the new guy adjust to tank.

Check my gallery and you'll see my anthias, they get along fine with my tangs and other fish. And I have one of the meanest tang there is, the clown.

Give us an update if you ended up getting a purple tang. I'd like to know how it goes along with the yellow tang.

I have a blue and a yellow tang as well. I've had them for about 4 years and they get along fine. I'm also wanting a purple tang to add but I might have to wait until I get a bigger tank since my tank is already too small for these two.

I'm with Loup on the purple verses pbt. I part time at a LFS and it seems like the pbt don't do very well. But, to be honest most of the time the conditions in the tanks are less than optimum.

I got mine from Youreef back in April. John actually quarantined the it for 2 weeks before putting in on display for sale. Here's a pic of the tang.

I have heard often that it isn't a good idea to put Zebrasoma Tangs together. Tangs such as these may have trouble adjusting to one another due to their conspecific body shape and antagonize each other in captivity.

If you do decide to try it, keep a close eye on them and watch for ich caused by stress.

I would stay Clear of the PBT. I love them. but man are they Ich magnets. Tried 2, with no success. I would defintly get the Purple over the PBT for that reason alone.

I have a Male Blonde Naso and Dejardini "Red sea tang" Love em both but the Naso is awesome.

On the Anthias. I have not gotten any yet but definetly will. I have really started to notice them lately and like them alot especially the males.

I have one that's survived 2 years so far, I'm considering letting it go, since I'm moving. Currently it's in a temporary holding tank at work, and I can't give it as much attention as I'd like to. It's survived ich countless times. Never been bossy to my other fish, but then I've never put any other tangs with it. It's a good 4", so I'm asking $70.

Hi xia,

which fish are you talking about the purple tang or a powder blue tang...

I actually will be setting up another 100 gallon tank after I pick it up from gabe so if the whole yellow tang and (pbt or purple tang) thing don't work out I will end up putting it in the new 100 gallon tank...

Well anyways which fish were you talking about....?

:)

It's a purple tang and it's tough, so you probably don't have to worry about it getting bossed around. How big are your other fish? I know $70 is a bit pricey and I hate to sell stuff off at full price. But for an tank established fish who's hardy and tuff, some people actually pay more than what stores charge. You might be able to find one for less than that but you may end up buying a few before you get one that survives.

yellow tang is 3-4" inches in length

Dori #1 is about 4" inches in length

Dori#2 I would say about 4-5" in length...

they all are peaceful and I never saw them fight against each other when I put them in and til even now...They all eat pellets, brime shirmp, nori, etc peacefully...

And my tank is full of live rock about 100+ pounds and is a 125 gallon 6 foot...

So I think that should be enough room for the two tangs to dispute their territories....

I don't know what do you think xia...I would not mind a purple tang...:p :p :p

especially with the track record the of the Powder blue tang...

The blues will not mess with it. They are pretty good community fish. The yellow might, but you have a big tank. I house a blue and a purple from exotic ($29.99 ea) in a 78gal. Both are 3-4in and get along fine. Bottom line, if the yellow leaves it alone, your water Q is good and you keep a tang fed with garlic soaked frozen foods it will keep the stress to nothing and no ich. Or just get rid of the yellow and buy a powder and a purple. They both look better than a yellow anyway IMO. They have both at exotic.

They had several powder blue and purple tangs today. However, the purple tangs were in one of the big coral tanks and they would rather not sell them since catching them would be difficult. Too bad I was hoping to bring one home. :(
