I'm having a hard time cooling my tank so i'm looking into a chiller but am limited on money
I have a 120 with 2 x 250 watt mh and i was thinking about getting this chiller.

chiller

or if anyone has a used better one please let me know

i'm setting up a 120 and i have a 1/4 jbj. The 1/10th is going to be too small on your tank. Its going to run constantly and will increase your electricity bill quite a bit. IMO invest in a good sized chiller like a 1/4. It'll be worth it in the long run. People are always selling used chillers. Look at craig's list or recycler and even here

russ, buy some fans and run over your sump, it's cheaper and can reduce about 4 degress easily; you'll just have to do lots of top offs.

I'm already doing that. and it has been working but the noise of the fans and the fluctuation in temp from the lights on to the lights off. I have one 7" fan blowing on the sump and one 7" blowing on my ballast and 2 3" fans in the canopy it would be nice to get rid of those two 7" fans.

haha, much better... 1/4 will work well. the only thing is, i'm not too sure about the brand. Never heard of it before. Maybe someone else has had experience with it. I stuck with JBJ because their chiller is well known, quiet and built really well.

Memorial weekend special :)

I have a Via Aqua CC-25 chiller, 1/4 HP. It has been in my garage for a couple summers to cool a prop tank I never set up. It worked when I got it and even if it didn't work properly, I would refund $$. I was going to hold on to it until August when it gets really hot and maximize a sale, but I will sell this weekend for $225 as I am home. LMK if interested

Russ,

You won't go wrong with the JBJ product plus they give a 2 year warranty which I haven't heard of any other brand doing. If you should decide with the 2nd chiller keep in mind if you ever need to repair you'll have to ship it to the manufacter. JBJ is made in California at least that is where I had to call. I had an isolated incident and they repaired no questions asked other than a receipt, shipping was $22 one way.

no thanks

I bought a new JBJ chiller a month ago anf I'm very happy with it. When I was looking ofor one, I debated either to get a used one or a new one. I was worried about warranty and reliability so I decided to get a brand new one and had a good deal. Not much big difference in price from getting the old one. I'm so happy that I made a bought a new one. Plus JBJ is local, I think in Inglewood so whenever I need service, I just need to drive there.
