want to set up a frag rack in my tank

i used six magnets to hold my rack up it is an L shape 35"L by 14"w and the 14"side is 6 "wide the 35" sideis 3" wide . the magnets hold it up great ,i have 30 frags on the shelf .

I'd wait until you get the slime algea under control. Especially with white eggcrate, you'll just get an unbelievable amount of it in there. But yes, eventually you could use magnets to support the eggcrate.

Ray organized a group buy of epoxy dipped magnets before that would work great. He'd be able to tell you where he ordered them from...

I'll pass on that. I'll pick up one of these for in the DT. I'll use pvc and egg crate like yours for the frag tank. Thanks!!

Those look nice! The drilled acrylic not only looks nicer, but then you don't get a bunch of gunk in the eggcrate.

I may have to try out one of those corner racks.

i was talk to jeff wheni went out aqua world about the white egg creat haveing some kind of chemical that aids in algea growth but he said they also sell black kind that are a bit more money but will not cause that problem

I've spray painted white egg crate with Black Krylon Fusion before and had no nuisance algae issues. You just need to allow 5 or 7 days for it to fully cure.

In my experience it seems like the white egg crate just needs to be "cured" or something. Stick a piece in your sump for a week or so before you use it.

i use white eggcrate matieral and dont get any alges on it ,better check your paramiters etc there is a reason the algea is growing and its not the plastic.

well what jeff said there are chemicals in the white ones that seem to cause it more but ya im haveing a battle with algea now so not going to chance it with the white lol but has any one use phosphate remover someone has brought this to my attion and i thought i might give it a shot since i dont got nothing else to loose

i think what im going to do is a little double team thing im going to finsh seting up my refrgium (by the wat the sump is done ill post pics ) but then get phophate remover the algea is starting to make a come back and instead of useing that reactor couldnt i just take the media and put it in a like a mesh sock typ thing and slip it over my intake pipe going into the sump to get the flow thru it

GFO (Granular Ferric Oxide) media in a media reactor like the Two Little Phishes Phosban Reactor 150 are very effective at removing phosphates. A small pump like the Mini-Jet 404 is needed to feed the reactor though.

A refugium with macro algae such as cheatomorpha would also help as well.

Be careful doing that. At first you will probably be fine, because you probably have a lot of phosphate in your system... but once you get down to a reasonable number, I personally recommend pulling the reactor offline and only using it when necessary (IF you have a refugium running).

Like I stated, GFO is VERY effective at what it does... aggressive reduction of phosphate. However, if you end up in a nutrient poor environment, the GFO can actually outcompete and kill off your macro algae... causing the macro to dump nitrates and phosphates back into your system.

I personally had that happen twice, and now only incorporate GFO for short term reductions.

I would not cover your intake or drain pipe with anything.

Using a reactor is the most effective way to run media, because it forces water through the media. Water will take the path of least resistance, and ins't just going to decide to move through a bag in the sump either (called passive filtration).
