Hello

I have a wantanabe angel in quarantine for the last 2 weeks. I am using cupramine, prazipro, and maracyn 2 right now because a freshwater bath revealed many gill flukes on the fish. He has a strange sore near his mouth that is not healing and I am wondering if it can be identified. I have taken some picks but they are not super clear, it is the brownish fuzzy looking sore on the fishes head in front of the gills. Any idea what it is or how to treat it?

looks like an ulcer, and i would treat with the jungle brand fungus clear and parasite clear together... they are totally safe together... good luck...

Tough decision. You already have a lot of medications in the tank. Polypharmacy has a tendancy to kill a lot of beneficial organisms and that is often bad. I would likely watch it to see how it does. I would consider a large water change without redosing medications since, after 2 weeks, your treatments are pretty much compete.

I am not sure what the sore is. It is likely a fungus or bacteria that is not susceptable to the antibiotics. Feed it well and make sure the water quality is very good.

water quality is great, it is in a 70 gallon tank with about 40 gallons of water. The tank has some live rock in it for a biological filter and ammonia has been undetectable. It doesn't want to eat though. Anyone else ever seen this?

if it appears to be a sore than i would not continue fresh water dips as this can create a bad infection in the sore and make things worse i would distribute some bacterial remedies in qt

Hasn't had a freshwater dip since the beginning when the flukes were discovered. I am considering a formalin bath in saltwater though to treat for fungal infection.

Are you doing cupramine and prazipro at the same time? The Seachem people discouraged me using any other medication along with cupramine. If you have done this in the past without ill effect I'd like to know because I would like to treat my blueface with prazipro as well as the cupramine.

It does seem like you are subjecting the fish to alot of drugs at once. I would consider stopping the prazipro if it's been 10 days since starting treatment, and the maracyn 2 if it's been 5-7 days since starting it.

jeff what store are you at? I see your # is 503...portland?

The round of prazi and maracyn 2 are done with and I have done a large water change and started carbon to absorb what is left. I am not going to re-dose cupramine for the time being as I have never seen ich on it or the pair of bellus angels that are on the other side of the divided qt tank. The bellus pair is doing great and will probably be moved to the main tank this weekend. I will then decide if I want to start medicating the wantanabe again.

ok, here are some new shots of the "growth". It seems to be getting worse. He isn't eating all that much and has not responded to cupramine, prazipro, maracyn II, mela or pimafix. I also did a couple of dips in a formalin product.

Anyone got any ideas what this is?

I am unsure. It may be an opportunist fungal infection. I would consider a 50% water change and a treatment with a antifungal.

I am currently running pimafix and melafix. Pimafix is a antifungal, but don't know how effective. What antifungal medication would you recommend?
