So, reading through this link, Aquarium husbandry - Feeding, and noticed that feeding isn't really necessary and in fact it may be harmful to the clams them selves. I'm considering of buying a small maxima and he's about 2 inches long and from what I've been reading in the forum that the baby clams will need to be fed by phytoplankton 2-3 times a week.
Getting a little confused here - should I, when I buy the clam, feed it with phytoplankton / marine snow 2-3 times a week until it gets to be around 3 inches or so?

A clam probably won't appreciate particulate matter like marine snow as the individual particles may be too large, but they do feed on microscopic phytoplankton. I stopped feeding my clams phyto once they got passed the 4 inch range and they've been doing well for about three years now.
