Wanted Custom Stand Builder

I am looking for someone that is capable of building a custom stand to fit into a space in a house my wife and I are in the process of buying. We have a 180 gallon tank with corner overflows and will be looking for this to be viewable from two sides. I know that the overflow will show on one side, but we can address that as part of the build. We need to see examples of previous work. Since this will go into a prominent place in our new home we need it to look just as schazzy as the rest of the place.
And since this will be custom work we already know that there will be things that need to be designed in to make it more convenient for me to maintain the tank.
Anyone have any suggestions.

Already knew that part. But if I am going to spend a big pile o money on a house. Why on earth would I put a crap stand in it. We are prepared to a point to open the wallet.

You aren't kidding. My last two stands have been expensive. Especially after you start adding in the crown mouldings, raised panel doors and labor of a proper craftsman.

Didn't SITC have a SWEET custom stand for a 180 for sale??

Will be getting a quote from their guy as soon as I get dimensions established. And the one they have there is for a 150.

The builders I know from SITC and they do a great job. Unfortunately in this hobby you get what you pay for. I think if I wasn't trying to get a job in Seattle I'd have worked here and saved up and gotten one of their stands to fill in the slot that opened up in my house since hubby sold his drum set. Of course he's probably going to find a new hobby toy to go there before I do ;p

I used to do historical restoration work, and some cabinet making in the past. I would expect with lumber prices what they are, that it will cost $2000 + probably closer to 3 if you find a good craftsman. Be sure and look at thier past work, and don't be afraid to call any refference they give. You will get what you pay for. Good lumber costs big dollars.

I would also reccomend an oil stain rather than laquer. The oil stains, like tung oil, may cost a little more, and take just a bit more work, but they will hold up to the water over time way better. Oil stains soak in to the wood, where laquer just coats it and over time will get cracks at the joints and let the water damage begin. I always use tung oil, mixed with what ever color of stain i want, and do 3 to 5 coats sanding lightly in between. Makes for the hardest, most durable finish you can get. Well worth the extra effort or money.

The picture i sent you is a 24 year old finish that has never had any special care and been though 5 kids and a 1500 mile U-Haul move lol. I didn't even wipe it off for the picture. The 3 extra pictures are wiped down with lemon furniture oil. You won't ever see a laquer finish that has that look after 24 years of being on a coffee table lol The teething marks crack me up and also add character is the only reason i don't fix it lol. I got a few more pics for you, but still with the camera on my phone. This table is solid oak and cost me $650 to build myself 24 years ago, so grab that checkbook tight lol.

For those interested, the center piece is a limited edition African American folk art piece that was put out by The House of Blues. The artwork is by Leroy Almon, and is entitled Devil-Fishing. It is also signed by B.B. King. The table was actually built to display the artwork. The concert tickets are just memories of great concerts like B.B. King x2, Led Zeppelin, Kiss, James Taylor, and The Rolling Stones x2 .

i thought my reply got posted but i guess not. check with george, he has a large wood working shop and has the program to make the stand to specs to hold the 180. i can't tell you he has the time to do it but it's worth a shot and you know how he takes his work.

brucem has a friend in the tampa area that is an incredible woodworker. he has built a few stands for reefers in the tampa area. he built a 180 stand and canopy last year for a tbrc member.

I saw the setup he built for Stephen (boydx6). It's the most beautiful furniture grade stand/canopy that I've ever seen.
