Wanted: Live Rock/Frags

Yeah, I guess I should be happy that my little mushroom is doing well and not subject any other corals to the cycling process, I will just have to hit you up michael when it stabilizes. I'm a woman so that means it's hard to pass up a good deal on something pretty (like pink tip frogspawn lol) I am thinking I may want to start with some softies instead of starting out first with frogspawn...

On a side note, it is nice to have the fan worms in my tank, I really like them and they are all a pink/white color, and I totally busted my knee running around at the park today with my dog so it seems I will be spending a lot of time getting to know my fan worms lol. I will have to name them to pass the time ;)

Nataliek, I think you are missing the point! You cannot start with any coral (If you want It to live and thrive) B4 your tank has completed cycling and has matured for a period of time to let the beneficial bacteria which supports life mature and multiply. This take weeks to months to accomplish not days. Try a fish and see how that works out for a start after your tank Is done cycling I'm sure you will be glad you did In the long run.

Hmmmmm ok first I had to laugh when I read. (Bill is of course right. lmao) Bill is great and full of knowledge its always funny when I hear someone argue with him about something or disagree and then a few days later say he was right. He's not always right but I have learned alot by listening and less talking. lol

Natalie these guys are telling you right. You have a ton of knowledge and experience at your disposal here and I suggest you take advatage of it. Its hard to be patient and let things just take their course but, in the long run it will always turn out better. My suggestion would be wait about four weeks and test the water and see where your at. I know that additive you added to the tank will help and youll be on track before long. I would go get a $5 Damsel once I thought everything was ok (cycle finished) and let him go for a week or two and see how he does. If he does fine Id probably add a cheap piece of coral and see how it reacts. Once I saw the fish and coral were doing fine then Id go broke buying sutff. Enjoy !!!!

P.S. Have fun getting that lil damsel out of your tank once youve decided you want a different fish. Ive heard of 200 gallon systems torn apart to remove one fish. Youll be proud this time the tank is smaller. lol

Gabberjaw told me to tell you if you feel your getting a little too impatient, come on over and get ideas..sometimes seeing some established setups (from a womans persepctive) and talking about ideas is fun enough to help keep the "want it now" feeling at bay. I think it's just an opportunity for the girls to hang out and talk fish...
 
Mike is right. I just threw out a cheap fish she wouldnt waste money on. Pretty sure she's already got the fish she wants picked out anyway.
 
haven't i read somewhere that you can also use freshwater mollies to cycle a saltwater tank??

:confused:

they tend to be a more docile fish than those f'n damsels, so easier to catch when you decide to remove after tank is cycled LOL
 
Yea mollies are also good to rid Green Hair Algae!!! I've used Mollies before but my other fish DOES NOT like them and ended up killing them off.

IF she don't take it, I will. My Green Chromis lost her mate awhile back. I had them for over 5 years and all of a sudden the mate dies for no apparent reason. They used to kiss all the time, it was sooooo cute to watch them do it.
 
Bill, you are completely right when saying I should wait that long to put corals in! I guess I wasn't clear with my wording, but I wouldn't want to subject any coral to the cycling process(it just seems kinda mean). When I do start putting corals in, I think I would want to start with some softies (zoas/mushrooms/leathers/etc) instead of putting a frogspawn in there first. When I said I wouldn't want to put corals in a cycling tank, I understand that means 4+ weeks, I appreciate the advice and you all reminding me not to get carried away :)


I sure do appreciate the offer for the chromis Zef- but I think I will go pick out a fish with my husband so maybe I can get him into it a bit more (I can only hope lol)


Should I add a clean up crew with the fish? 2-4 Nassarius Snails, 2-4 Cerith Snails? does that good enough for 1 fish?
 
A clean up crew will be a good thing as It will prevent problems B4 they start, And a fish of your choice (a hardy one) will be the best way to start then add another one from your list of wants after you have had some time pass with no loss of life. If you let the bio load adjust after each addition you will be successful In your endeavor and much happier than If It all died. Good luck!

Man, I would be soo sad if anything died, let alone if everything died! Adding one fish at a time will also help with the budget, I am thinking a goby, with a CUC when my nitrites and ammonia has been at 0 for at least 3 days, anyone know if I should wait longer than 3 days of amm/nitrites being 0? Aren't inverts like pom pom crab and cleaner shrimp/sexy shrimp much more sensitive to ammonia/nitrites/nitrates than fish? Should I wait on the pom pom crab I want for a month or so after I add my fishies one by one?

Friday: Am 1.5; NO2 0; NO3 0
Saturday: Am 1.5; NO2 1.5; NO3 20 (*added Bio-Spira)
Sunday: Am slightly over 0; NO2 5.0; NO3 30
Monday:Am 0; NO2 5.0; NO3 20
Tuesday: Am 0; NO2 0.5:dance:; NO3 between 10 & 20

Do not worry about passing on good deals. There is always someone making space in their tank and offering good deals.

Lol, I am coming to realize that once my tank is cycled, I will be an impulse buyer with corals :)


Just checked my parameters again and I've got
Am: 0
Nitrite: .5
Nitrate: 5

I guess the nitrate is so low bc of the chaeto? It's about the size of a baseball, anyone elses chaeto work that fast? It was at 20 this morning! Thanks Rhett :)
