My wife and I would like to have a 5 or 6ft long by 12 to 18" wide tank and we need a hood and stand made for us and it must be top knotch furniture quality.

I'd like to have someone build a maple stand and hood to match our Mennonite made tv cabinet. I can provide photos.

I understand this is going to cost me... a LFS in Sarasota promised me a quote but never sent me one... this time round, I might as well skip the LFS markup...

I can send over a design of what I'd like made but it's essentially a 6 by 18" stand that can hold a 55g tank as a sump.

Anyone out there a pro at wood working or know someone who is and needs a project?

How wild. You registered 2.5 years ago and this is your first post.

The millwork shop next my S/S shop does fabulous work. Problem is, they charge like it was made of Gold. If you have some pics of what you want it to look like and some more info like what lighting you plan in the canopy, I can get a $$$ from them.

It looks like I can attach a zip file to this thread so I'll zip the pic and attach... hopefully it works.

oh, and metal halide, PC lighting... I might use 150W MH lamps max... I'm not into clams or high light corals... softies are plenty for me!

If softies are what you are interested in then there is no real reason to have halides. You can do softies and LPS with PC's or T5's.

I know a guy. PM me if you want his contact info. Here's some pics of things he built..

Couple blemishes..happened getting it up my stairs and through the door. It was perfect when I bought it from him.

Amanda, is that the one Mike built? If so, he also built the stand / canopy I am using for my 90. Good guy and great quality work!

Yes, it is! Mike is awesome...very honest, too. Met him on a local car message board. He adopted a tiny kitten I rescued on my property (wanted to keep her, but my dogs wanted to eat her). Then I bought the coffee table tank deal. Loosbrew in Orlando owns it now.

I have a 10000 square foot wood shop. I build stands and custom acrylic sumps refuges etc. Your looking at about 3-4 thousand for a 6ft custom stand and canopy. I can build to what ever style you want.

WOW!!! Does that price include the 24K screws? or do you nail it?

Mike told me before that materials alone nowadays would be $2000 or more for something like that...to do it right.

There was $1200 in materials in my 120 posted above (the coffee table one).

I have some swamp land for sale in a great location, anyone interested?:D

Having built a couple of stands I've gotta say, if you want to do it right, and make it look GOOD, it costs a LOT.. The one really ornate stand that I built that I didn't even finish had about $400 in it and I hadn't finished building the doors by the time I sold it.. I was looking at probably another $100.. And that wasn't nearly as ornate as the stands that I see from Mike or some of the others..

Doug, have you built a stand?

i have built 7 all in thats range of quility or better and i'm with doug. that price is crazy. to build it for that price is one thing but for the material alone to cost that is damn near theft.

heck i built my entire wall unit entertainment center out of 100% oak and high quality hardware and even that i only had around 800 in material
