war coral question

I'm looking at buying a war coral and would like some info on them.
Are they considered an easy coral, tank placement, and what are price wise per head ?

any pics if anyone has one.

Thanks

I have two versions, the red and the purple. The AE Purple War Coral is super sweet. The purple is so deep and the green eyes are such a great contrast. I also have the JenDub Appocolypse War Coral which is very similar to the Tyree War Coral as it gets the blue grey splashes through it, just smaller eyes. the red is super bright. one of the most noticed corals in my tank. No decent pictures...sorry. I thought I had a couple but couldn't find any. It is a nice coral to have, encrusitng favia type with bright colors...an eye catcher in any tank :D.

Prices really vary but if you check the For Sale threads on RC you can usually find some good deals, as there are plenty of folks who have War Corals, to be had if you are patient.

I'd consider it easy, mine doesn't seem to care what kind of lighting I stick it under, currently it's low under 250 watt halides but I had it in my nano under 70 watts as well. Super fast grower for me and always has feeders out. Started with 3 heads a year ago

I have a good size tyree war coral, and its very easy to care for. I feed it every few days, and keep it in low light. It keeps it dark red burgandy color.

I keep mine in high light and it glows orangy red.

Very hardy coral.. I didn't see it in the box of goodies I received. It was left in a baggy for 5 days before I was given the heads up on the freebie.

A couple local reefers and I had some of the War Coral -esque colonies that have been coming in lately, and found them to be not so hardy. Anyone else have a comparison between the OG Tyree, for example, and a freshly imported lookalike?

This looks like a favia to me not a war coral FWIW...

They are pretty forgiving. I had mine down in the sandbed but wanted to give it room as it grows nicely so I raised it up some. Pacific East Aquaculture (Dr. Mac) often has nice war corals. Mine is a favorite of mine. It is teal, with pink, purple and burgandy tones. The new growth is green. Sorry for the bad pic. Don't let the size of the snail fool you. That is a top hat and is huge.

Thats a war coral for sure. Its actually favites, favites pentagona. I have the red with blue splashing, the primarily aqua and red and the true blue(solid light blue with green eyes). All seem to like a little subdued light to do their best, and have good coloration.

It is Favites pentagona; I have a large piece as well. However, my War Coral looks not at all like that. It is very bright red with neon yellow/green eyes. I keep it 28 inches from 400 W. Radiums.

Thanks (I think). That's its naturally sparkly goodness. It sure is purty, imho. I like how it looks like 3' long but in reality is about 1.5". I love macro photography.

This coral also extends / inflates its polyp faces to feed. Tentacles roll out where the green and maroon / magenta meet. A couple of them are visible in the shot. I feed it while I'm feeding my acans with a mix of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp and rotifers.

Doh! I didn't notice that slojmn had posted earlier! I have her to thank for my marvelous specimen. Thanks again Alicia!
