Warner Marine Now Has A Pellet Product

I am on day 23 of the EcoBak pellets and continue to see progress. Heavy skimmer production, clean glass. I have seen a few small patches of hair algea that has popped up this week, but nothing else negative. SPS color is getting better.

Using a 18" tall AVAST reactor and have a steady tumbling action on the pellets. Using 1 liter of pellets for my 200 gal system.

Jon Warner told me to avoid using any products to "seed" the pellets. Simply because those manufacturers won't be specific as to what strain of bacteria they use in their products. He said it's not necessary. :)

"Solution:
Whatever it takes to kill/remove the algae. Once the algae is gone, the P04 and N03 will be leached from the rock by the pelletized bacteria.
This can be achieved with vodka dosing alongside the pellets. Or a herbicide such as API Algaefix. ( can we use this stuff in a pellet system)"

I used API Algaefix and it killed off algea fast, too fast maybe, I think tank went toxic for a day or two due to added nutrients. I lost several acros over next 2 weeks. This may well have been due to a combination of things. I recall thinking I need to stop fixing things on tank, too many changes too fast. Even small tweeks done together seem to stress some sps.

Currently tank is stable, 95% of time sps is winning fight with algae and cyno.

All of your thinking is in line with my experience. GHA on rock is just bound crap leaching, it will pass. (Assuming you are not adding it via food) Also I find powdered foods seem to cause cyno/algae.

BTW I add MB7 ~daily and ZEObac weekly (Using up ZB)

Just so you know Jon told me several days ago that Warner Marine is now in the process of creating a product to dose live bacteria to seed and maintain bacterial colonies on the pellets. He is opposed to other live bacterial products b/c he does not know what is in them. However, he is not opposed to the concept of dosing live bacteria to seed and increase bacterial colonies on the pellets and is in the process of creating a product to do so.

I am using a NextReef MR1 reactor for my 90g reef. I removed the black sponges on top and bottom and replaced them with the sewing disks that everyone recommended. I put 500ml of the ecobak and can't seem to find a good pump to get the pellets to lightly boil. I tried a pump with about 150gph and then moved to a Rio 1400 (about 400gph) and that didn't seem to move them any either. Any suggestions on what pump to try. Not to sound like an idiot but is it possible that I didn't put the pellets in correctly???

Thanks in advance!!

A maxi jet 1200 should work ok with 500ml

I was using a maxi jet 1200 on a TLF reactor with 500ml of BP and it was working fine. Can you post a video of your reactor in action?

Count me in guys! Just started using the ecoBAK pellets tonight. I started with 1/2 the recommended amount and will add 1/4 per week until I'm using 1L. Excited to see what happens over the next few weeks. :)

Hi, are you supposed to use these pellets while running gfo and gac. I,m asking because right now I have 2 reactors, one with gfo and one with gac, should I just change the gfo to pellets?
Thanks,Ken

That sump is just too clean! Very nice.

Thanks milkman55. :) Hopefully my display will be sparkly clean after a month or so of these pellets. ;)

Maybe someone else will chime in but yes that's the idea. I am going to overlap running GFO and Pellets until the pellets start to mature and reduce the phosphates. Then I will essentially eliminate the GFO altogether. Some still run a little along side the pellets but I believe the idea is to run Carbon and Bio Pellets only, in separate reactors of course.

Bret I love how clean your set up is. The plumbing and the layout all shouts professional. Well done. Are the pellets tumbling for you in SMRI?

Thanks Jeremy! :) Yes the pellets have been in there since last night around 10pm and are tumbling nicely. It's plumbed off the manifold from the Dart return pump so there's plenty of flow to keep them suspended. Actually I have to dial back the flow quite a bit since the Dart will really make them dance. LOL. Manifold plumbing is 1" to a 3/4" valve through the standard 5/8" tubing so flow isn't an issue. Still have a couple floaters but no clumps today at all. It's amazing, even less than 24 hrs and I'm already noticing a difference in skimmate production. Seems like it's dryer and stickier than it's ever been. And I'm only running 1/2L at this point in the reactor. I'm going to ramp it up over the next couple weeks till I'm running a full Liter.

I'll try and get a video posted of pellets tumbling in the reactor tonight. :)
