Warner Marine Now Has A Pellet Product

Update on the pellets
I have a 90 gallon reef with a 40 gallon sump/fuge and a MSX200 skimmer. I upgraded my lights from 150watt MH to 250’s around April and use a mag 9.5 for return and a VorTech MP40 for flow. I only have about 60-70lbs of live rock and maybe 5lbs of sand and crush coral in my display. My fuge has a large ball of cheato and a 4”deep sugar size sand bed. My current bio load consists of 11 fish (clowns, cardinals ect) I have been running the pellets for 2 months now and have had a little outbreak of GHA, film algae and Gelidium. I recently added a clean up crew to help with some of the algae, however, my parameters are good. My phosphates are .03 and my nitrates we 1. My skimmer production is solid and consistent like never before, but my cheato continues to grow and hasn’t been reduced since the addition of the pellets. Once my GHA outbreak is finished I will pick up feeding to see how things respond.

It's been about 2 weeks sence I decided to add some vite c to my doseing to make up for not haveing enough pellits in my reactor. And I must say things are rockin now! Tank is spotless, skimmin like crazy, Cheato hasn't grown at all in the 2 week period, Coral is showing a little boost in groth, glass only needs cleaned about every 4 days and not realy then but i obsess about it being spotless, I have been able to up my feeding to 2 cubes 3 times a day and a pinch of pellits here and there, and my po4 is staying at 0.00 on a hanna checker, and no3 is zero on api. So I am a firm beleaver that these pellits are awesome if you have the right amount in the reactor. And if you have read this whole thread you will know I was skeptical at first. I am going to get a bigger reactor in the next couple weeks and add more pellits. After the extra pellits have a week or two to get up to speed I'm going to take my GFO off line and see if I can maintain 0.00 po4 without it.

I know it was mentioned here, but what is the material needed in the reactor so that I can take the sponges out? I don't remember the name but I know you can buy it an pretty much any craft store. Needle............... something.
TIA

I have been running the pelets for 2 months and I never any any outbreaks of algea, I do have a question however? I have read to plumb the efluent line from the pellets into the top of a T going strait into the skimmer, now I just have it going into the skimmer chamber. What is the best way? I feed heavier and added more fish and my corals look great. The only problem I have seen is I had to raise my light as the LPS corals were bleaching. My Orp went from 275 to 400 with the pellets and the water is crystal clear. 0 nitrate, .02 or less on the Hanna meter. Thank you Warner Marine!

Ok, I'm going to take my zeo offline and need some advice. 200g water volume so is 1liter of pellets enough? Also thinking about the avast reactor kit which holds 1.25 l. Should I get a bigger reactor? Thanks for the info on here its been very informative.

i have the avast reactor with 750ml and wish i got a bigger one. it holds 1.25 l dry. to get a decent tumble i think you need a bigger reactor

drummereef I may have missed it but what pump is running your reactor with your EB?
I have the same reactor and will be going online with it this weekend. My MRI reactor came with a pump that is rated at 132mpg. Did yours come with one too?
Wouldn't 132 mpg be enough to gently tumble the EB?
BTW nice sump setup! How long has your system been running?

OK Bill thanks for the info. Since then, I've dialed the reactor back a bit to a slow churn. Hopefully the video will help people in their decision on what reactor to buy. The NextReef is a really nice product and really allows full suspension of whatever media someone might use in it.

I've had 2 liters of EcoBak running in a DIY reactor for a little over 2 weeks now. I haven't noticed much of anything happening. I'm thinking maybe I have the media tumbling too much. Would you experts mind taking a look at a video of my reactor in action and tell me what you think?

The video's at the bottom of the page on this LINK

Thanks. :)

My reactor is plumbed off the manifold driven by the Dart return pump. It's a great way to do it if you have space and if your pump is powerful enough to do it. System has been up a few months now, but just going through the typical new tank algae cycles. I can't comment on pump size for this reactor since I haven't had experience plumbing it that way but it's a great reactor non the less. Maybe someone will chime in on what pump combination to use. ;)

Looks perfect to me Glass. Maybe a hint slower but from what Jon said about my vid, he liked the way it looked. Yours looks very similar to me.

Thanks for the feedback. Are you happy with the quality of your reactor?

I did the Build yourself and really like it. For me, it was worth saving the cash for the Build yourself. But overall, they use quality products. They do have a new "fatty" reactor that you might want to consider.

Well finished setting up the MRI reactor. I started slow here guys. I purchased a 1 liter pkg. I added 1/4 of the product. I will add 1/4 every week until I have added all of the EB. Why? I want to control the process as much as possible. Keeping an eye on water parimeters, corals, fish and making documentation on the whole process.
Even though the MRI came wth a pump that produces 132 gph I so far only see chanels where the gentle circulation is going. The rest of the EB just sits there. From reading this thread looks like the EB are not getting enough flow. I will post a quick video so you guys can chime in.

BTW any thoughts on what pump to use to move 1 liter of EB?

Reeflo Dart. No, mine is plumbed into a manifold feed by a Dart so I'm definitely not lacking flow headroom. Someone else might be better suited to help you on pump selection for that reactor though. ;)

Ok guys here is the short video.

It would be nice to have this kind of tumbling throughout!

jsdancer - I am having the exact same problem as you. I posted about it on page 22 of this thread. Hopefully one of us can find a remedy. My pellets moved about the same as yours using the pump that came with the reactor. I had 250ml in at the time, then I had the other 250ml and no movement. I tried a Rio 1400 and still had no movement. Let me know if you find a solution and I will do the same for you!

I have an old but still working 802 Aquaclear power head. They call them Aquaclear 70 nowadays.
Anyhow it is rated at 400 pgh. The great thing about it is that I can control the output because it has already a built-in water flow restrictor. Now if I see that at the opened up max the EB blow all over I will turn it down. If I turn it down all the way and the EB are still blowing all over the place then I have to look for something else. Now mind you I still only have 1/4 of the 1 liter in the MRI reactor. I will work on it next week and let you know.

In the meantime if anyone with pump knowledge let yourself be known!

Here is a weeks worth skim. I was wondering do the pellets just house or benefit one type of bacteria? Would there be any benefits of sharing pellets from other reefers reactors like the days of live sand sharing with a dsb?

Alk/Eco-Bak

Alk/Eco-Bak

What do you keep your Alk at? I'm thinking about trying the EB pellets. My Alk is around 10dkh.

What does your Alk have to do with starting Eco-Bak??? Really Don't understand your concern. As long It's in the proper range what are your worries and why?
