Warner Marine Now Has A Pellet Product

im going to jump in here and ask a question that probably already has been answered, but i no time to read all 57 pages.

ive been running pellets in tlw150 reactor for about 4 months with little to no change in either n or p. im also running a refugium with cheato ,gfo and carbon. nitrates seem to stay at 2 and phos at .024. i can never get them lower. the cheato doesnt seem to be dieing off or slowing as far as growth.

im wondering if the gfo is hurting the growth of the pellet bacteria. causing them to be ineffective. i thinking of stopping the carbon and gfo and see what happens. i was hoping to eliminate ,gfo, carbon and cheato totally with the use of pellets.

ill tell u that something is wrong. all my sps corals are stning from the base and my lps corals have not shown much growth if any. im thinking lack of p.

have we determined that we should not run gfo with these pellets? some pellet companies say no, some say yes.

my hanna ppb meter is reading 8. but i dont believe it. i think its lower then that. all other low range tests dont even register.

I use a MJ600 with a TLF150 and have minimal tumbling and have been running this way for 7 months now with good results (nitrate at rock solid zero - started at 50+) - just another data point.

How long has tank been setup? Can you give us details on system? how big, skimmer, fish etc.

I have some thought but need more info first.

I slowed down my flow a bit. Is it ok for the pellets in the front of the reactor tumble and the back don't?

I have the same reactor with 1L of pellets in it and you should be able to fine tune your flow such that all of the pellets are moving at a "slow boil" type of pace.

edit: Check that...I am using the BR-110.

tank has been setup for 1 year. it is a 28g tank and 15g refugium.
i have cheato in the fuge and run the lights 24/7.
i am using 100ml of biopellets.
using 100g of phosban in a brs reactor.
i am running 2 skimmers. an aqua c remora hob and a tunze 9002 in the sump.
about 35 lbs of live rock and 1 inch sand bed.
i have 6 fish. algea blenny,stripped damsel,tomato clown,percula clown,sixline wrasse,purple firefish. few shrimp and about 8 snails and crabs.

what else might u need?

OK one year update on using EgoBak Pellets.
I have 180 gallon mixed reef tank. That I could not keep clean for more than a day or two. So Jon sent me some EgoBak to try out. I started with 1L of pellets in May of 2010 and in November of 2010 I added 500ML more because I used up 500ml in six months. Now in July I need 1L again.
My tank in the last year has been very clean. Now I have been all most out of EgoBak for the past two weeks and I do see some brown showing up on my tank. Yes I did call Jon and ordered more 1L. I hope to have by Friday.
EgoBak Rock my Tank! This is one of the best products I have used in this hobby in more than 15 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Way to go Jon Warner!

Remember that pellets need to tumble ever so slowly. I have mine tumbling all most to a stall. The slower the better. If they move to fast all you are doing is washing off the bacteria and they will not work.

Anyone have videos showing the flow/tumble? I think I saw one on here, and I thought it was moving pretty quick...?

Also, are you pulling any other media? ie. gac, phosguard/rowaphos? Thanks!

How about dosing vodka - mb7 or special blend at the same time as running the pellets? I assume not, as both are a carbon source?

I have not used one in over 10 years. I think with good skimmer and reef keeping you should not need one. Also the UV is killing off the bacteria that the pellets need.
