Warning to all clam lovers!

This morning I woke up to see both of my tiger nassarius snails eating my crocea which was a healthy clam. I just hope it's going to pull through, but I don't think it will. I thought I would give you a heads up on these things. Tiger nassarius are not clam safe.

Not nassaruis snails, probably tulip snails that were misidentified, everything I have read says that true nassarius snails are obligate feeders on carion, but there are lots of other snails in the whelk family that look very similar, bottom line be careful when you get nassarius snails. I'm curious, how big are they, and do they have a notch for the siphon, infact, do you think you could take a picture of them and post it for us.

On another thought, how long were the snails and clam together in the tank before the incident?

I've seen these snails at many lfs labled as tiger nassarius they are the size of a quarter. I am familiar with tulips and they're not tulips. They haven't been together long also I think the problem is they are meat eaters.

Never heard of a tiger nassarius either, and as far as I know nassarius are safe, although one time I see mine chasing a "naked" hermit crab between shells, it really scared the bigibis out of that little thing.

I have tiger nassarius snails they are not tulips they are nassarius mine are bigger than a quarter. Thanks for the heads up as i have them in a tank i was going to transfer a few clams to.
I can send a pic later if anyone is interested.
