My new watchman goby dosent have the "kickstand" fin that I'm used to seeing on these guys. He just lays directly on the sand. He's very healthy and eating like a pig but I wanted to check and see if he may be another type of goby or if he is just deformed. Anyone know?

Heres a pic...

It's possible he is deformed, but it's not uncommon for them to have fins torn off, etc. during the capturing process. This often leads to infections. See if you can get a good look underneath and look for any signs of pink or redness. If so, it will probably be a good idea to put him in a hospital tank and treat with antibiotics.

If not, just keep an eye on it to be sure it doesn't get infected.

My male lost a fin in a mating frenzy once. It wouldn't heal on it's own, so I did have to treat him. Even after treatment, it took about 6 months for it to grow back.
