Water alarms: one for every tank.

This would have saved us a raft of trouble. We have one downstairs, but of all things, we have, within two months, had two canister filters (freshwater) fail, the second time with a leak. Water on the floor, oh yes. We were lucky and it happened right as we were sitting down to dinner, not, say, out shopping. Two water alarms for the upstairs are next on my own agenda. Set it on the floor right behind your tank or in the bottom next to your canister or sump. If water pools under the unit, it will close the two contacts and the unit will scream loudly.

Canisters are often used by people who are worried about sumps overflowing. Mmmm. Problems happen wherever there is water. Your best defense if you are going to have water is to have an alarm right with it.

There are wifi alarms too that will text you when a leak is detected.

Combine that with a wifi switch and you can be notified of the leak, and turn the offender off remotely as well.

I have a couple surrounding the tank and a couple in the stand. I also use them around my water heater. Very good product and the batteries last a very long time.

I built mine from a GFCI receptacle that my pumps are plugged into. If there is water under my tank or if my bucket under my skimmer overflows, it trips the GFCI turning off the pumps.

I have several in my basement. Since I tend to overflow my basement few to many times
Noticed part of my screen name "flood"
I installed 1 in my fishroom, 1 by the central HVAC, 1 each by the basement sumps. I tried testing them at least twice a year to make sure they still work.

They're kind of like smoke alarms: the change to Daylight Savings Time is a good reminder date to renew batteries in such items.
