so my garage is right behind my tank and i was looking for insight on how i can cut a hole in wall without letting air in house to escape, i dont need much bigger than maybe a 2" hole. trying to make water changes easier from garage to tank..thx in advance!!
I used a hole saw the same outside diameter as some pvc pipe which was large enough to let all my lines through. I cut the pvc to the size of the width of the wall. I then ran everything through that pvc pipe. Then stuffed some rags into the remaining space to block off air.
Once you are sure you're done with putting lines through you can fill the gaps with silicone.
Be sure not to go through any pipes or electrical wiring in the wall when you cut through.
If you're close by I'll loan you the hole saw if you want to pick it up. PM me.
I've used "Great Stuff" foam to seal holes cut for plumbing in bathrooms. It's very easy to use and you can carve it up a little to take off what you don't need. Or, paintable silicone, as already suggested, would work if it's a tight gap.
These two above posts are the way to go. Try to get the hole as small as possible for the hose/s you will be running through and either you calk or foam fillet.
