Water change question

I have a 75 gallon tank and i was wonder how often should i do a water change and how much. Currently i do one ever other week with aprox 20-25 gallons. Good or Bad? Let me know please

Thanks

Your current habits are great, keep them up. You will find that everybody has their own method and you should use whatever schedule you are comfortable with, you will gain a feel for it as your tank ages.

Check your water parameters often, nitrates and phosphates and whatnot. They'll let you know when you need a water change. I do mine weekly, but I bet my tank could handle every other week. Alot will just depend on how filthy the livestock is making the water and how much the inverts are pulling from the water column. Each setup will be differnent and need to be treated as such. You seem to be doing fine so far with every other week. Just watch closley, as you add more bioload to the tank it may require more frequent water changes.

Well the problem i am have is that algea is growing like crazy again. My perameter are on the dot and flow is more then enough. What else could cause this? I Have a DI Ro system. Im just flabber gasted on this one. I want it to go away.. Its the dark green algea that grows long and wavy

Yup, totally agree. I have a 65g EcoSystem set-up and do a change out every 3 weeks and my water parameters are dead on each time. In fact I'll bet I could go more like 4 or 5 weeks with same numbers as EcoSystem's tend to maintain the water by the way the system works.

I agree everyone has there own habits. I am not dealing with as much water as you, only 29 gal. I do change every week and 10%. Only 3 gal every week is not much work.

;)

I have just been searching for animals to control your type of problem. It seams as if the use of sea slugs can be quite beneficial, with the addition of a sizeable number of assorted snails.
Like Barbara said, everyone has/uses different cleaning habits. Personally I always did 10% weekly ... However bigger/more frequent changes will help you to get that Algae under control.

This would be the dastardly Hair Algae! Test for phosphates while your at it. Increased levels can be a great factor in hair algae.

I used to have the same problem with the algae growing. i started doing 10% weekly changes and that went away.
