what is the best way to put the water back into the tank during a water change in a AP 24?

i just pour mine in out of the bucket or use a plastic container to sccop it out and dump it in

if you mean water changes of a few gallons, as noted with a cup i have plastic 3 cup container) and in my jbj i pour it into the compartments, OR hold a saucer in my other hand at water's edge and pour onto saucer so detritus not stirred up

Does anyone pump the water from a bucket?

I use a vacume hose. You can buy one from your LFS. I have even used to a garden hose once to pump water.
