I have a problem when I do my water changes, I dont have a sump I really need to start putting one together but I really need help putting one together Im clueless I have read and read how to construct one but still have no idea where to start......I mix my salt and let it sit for 24 hours with a powerhead in the bucket... I just dump the bucket (5gal) right into my tank splashing water everywhere and making all my coral in my tank freak out and fall off all my live rock and I have to reset up all my coral everytime I do a water change because im dumping 5 gal of water in my tank some what fast(its not that easy to dump 5 gal slow you know....any idea to help out besides telling me I need a sump. Thanks Matt

i have a sump, but i use a much smaller 1/2 gal bucket to transfer the water from my 5 gal bucket into the tank/ sump. also when i first started i used a dinner plate that i placed into the tank to pour water onto. that does a decent job dispersing the water

buy a small cheap submersible pump ,hose it up ,,i use a little pump to pump out my sump , and to pump the water back in from 5 gal buckets , it wont get things all mixed up

I usually just get a pitcher or something and scoop the water out and pour it in my tank. Once again its only 14 gallons so theres not alot of water im replacing.

But MurphSalty idea is a good idea just get a cheap pump add some tubing to it and your set. I am still looking for that powerhead for sarah I have not been able to find it. I think its in storage. I am going there sunday so ill take a look for it while im there. I might have an extra one you can use for water changes too. Ill let you know

six line is huge and doing grate ill try to post some pictures, thing is so fast its hard to get a good one.....yeah i have to think of something to do coming up on a change here soon thanks for the input

If it is possible to fit under the tank stand, you certainly could put in a 20 gallon sump, or even a 10 gallon one.

You would just need an overflow box and a return pump.

Are you running a protein skimmer? If not, you could also put one in your sump.

The plumbing aspect of the sump isn't really as hard as you might think and all the parts you need you can get at the Lowe's in River.

If you need help, let me know. I'm in West Park.

Purchase a small pump and the appropriate size and length hose to fit it. I use an old Maxi-Jet 600. Pump the water out of the display tank into a bucket. Pump the new water back into the display tank. Very neat process with no splashing. Done deal and very fast.

I have a couple of small wet dry that I was going to list. Let me know if you need one for a sump. I"ll make you a good deal

Check out my gallery, I use a 18 gallon rubbermaid. When I do water changes, I turn off the return pumps, siphon from the tank, turn on pumps and start adding water to the sump. Pretty simple.

i do the same thing every 2 weeks with 2 5 gallon buckets of water. i dont seem to have a problem pouring slow but i also have an empty spot high in my tank that i aim for when i pour. the pitcher was also a good idea.
