water changes?

FOWLR would probably be ok depending on the sensitivity of the fish, and how over-fed they get (bioload). This does't mean it's a healthy practice to do on a regular basis.

id like to hear from as many people as i can on this even if you agree with what has already been said and by the way the tank in question has an anemone and some crabs and snails

Thats a good question question which sorry I cant answer my reef is always at or near 0 on my test kit and thats whre I keep it.

i heard someone comment on here he only did a water change twice a year. from my understanding the waterchanges mostly benefits the corals. if you have a fish only tank and the levels are always at 0 then what will a water change benefit anyways. i do mine weekly a 5% only because its a reef tank

FO - nitrate can probably go as high as 60 - 80 ppm? Cut back on feeding, the water might be OK for 6 weeks.

what if its a reef tank?

As close to zero as possible, reef tanks still require some nitrates. If I had to put a number on it I would say no more than 5ppm.
