Water Conditioner?

I have a fairly new 55G (6 months) and was wondering what is the correct type of water conditioner to use when doing water changes? I have R/O water.

I have a sump and skimmer if it matters. I used some brand (Stress Coat +) that a local salt store suggested and it foamed up my skimmer and had to turn it off for a few days. Is there a less foamy type I can use?

Thanks!

No water conditioner needed since using RO water. Just RO water and salt premixed for 24 hrs. for water change.

Water conditioners are for emergency (my tank sprung a leak/I need to set up my hospital tank) situations, to prepare tapwater to be salt-mixed. Otherwise, use ro/di water or ro water and mix (read instructions, but usually a precise 1/2 cup salt mix per precise gallon of ro/di water) your sea water from that.

Thank you for the replies. If I use a conditioner in an emergency as described, are they all the same? What is the best, to minimize foam?

For emergencies you need something to remove chlorine/chloramines from the tap water. The stress coat plus contains a plume coat replenisher and aloe vera which is why your skimmer went nuts. Something like Prime or Amquel is what I would use but any de-chlorinator without the extra additives would be fine.
