Water General/Filter Direct RO/DI problems

I have had this set up since Chritmas. Its the one with the storage tank. Anyway, I attached the wastewater line to my drain under the sink. I ASSUMED the auto-shut off valve would stop the flow from the waste line when the holding tank was full. Of course I never checked it since it was attached to my sink drain. With all the rain last week I needed a towel for the dog's paws. All the scrap towels under the sink were wet so I started to check all the attachments on the RO/DI unit. I tightened them all and unscrewed the waste line and let it drain into the sink while I checked for leaks. It never shuts off! If I turn the water supply off when I am sure the holding tank is full it doesn't continue to run when water supply is turned back on. If I use a little bit of water and the unit needs to make more it starts up and doesn't stop. I will be contacting the company tomorrow.
If you have one of these units set up like I do you may want to check your waste line.
Sorry for the long read.

That blows Brian...I have one of those units w/o the holding tank, but I just use mine to make tank water as needed. Filter Direct has always been easy to deal with for me. I trust you will have the same luck. :)

It will run about an hour after you empty the tank, maybe a little longer in cold weather. If you use the pressure up in the main tank, it will take 3-4 gallons to refill. On that model which I have as well it will take about an hour. Colder weather will increase the time as the ro membrane has a higher rejection rate at colder temps. If it continues then the auto shut off solenoid needs replaced and it would be free under warranty if you just got it. If you bought it used there is a certain maintenance frequency that it needs changed and it may have reached that time.

I dont have the Storage Tank Model, but everything else is the same. My Auto-Shutoff is not working either. When my 55gal drum of RO is filled, the float value stops the flow of RO, but the waste water just keeps going. Since I dont use alot of water right now, I just turn off valve going to the unit.

I have talked to one ofther person and they mentioned that have had to take their Auto-shutoff valve apart, clean it alittle, and it will start working again. But my unit is only a month old.

Will be calling Water General / Filter Direct....

mime does the same thing---has since the day i bought it. i just thought i misunderstood the way they were supposed to work and have dealt with it.

chad---do you just undo the 4 little screws and unstick the plunger, or does it need to be replaced when that happens?

hmm i just installed my r/o the other day.
i figured that after if filled the tank it stopped wasting water anyway.
perhaps i need to take the waste hose out, stick it in a bucket and watch it to see what happens.

the auto shut off on my airwaterice unit works well. You can replace the valve unit with another brand.

I have not had any problems with mine that I know of.

I did have a question on the RO/DI units with the tank's.. I bought one without the tank, and since was give a tank so I can run it to the refrigerator for filter water. Are they ran off the same line but "T'ed" one to the RO tank and one to the RO Storage for top off? Sorry for the hijacking of the thread

Lonnie you T off between the RO membrane and the DI portion to another T one going to your tank and the other side to your frig. I have a taste and odor filter inline gives the RO some taste cost like 9 bucks. If that didn't make since ask more specific questions.

You want to use the RO for drinking water not the DI also use plastic pipe, copper is bad and can add a funky taste among other things. Plus plastic is cheap and easy to replace it as it gets older.

Dennis that is what I was talking about.. But to make sure I'm clear the line before the DI goes to the frig. and the line after the DI is for the top off water?

Lonnie your confusing yourself to much. Just before the DI use a T so you Tap off to your frig. Yes after the DI goes to top off. :D
