Water level keeps dropping

I just filled my tank up about 3 days ago. I've noticed a good amount of water missing in it this morning after I came home from my 24hr shift. There's no leaks or anything and it seems fine. Is this pretty normal for it to drop that quickly? It's about an inch lower than it was when I left. Any help is appreciated!!

Evaporation is normal.. You need to top off the water (but you use fresh ro/di water as the salt does NOT evaporate)..
Many add whats called an ATO (auto top off) which uses float switches, a pump and a container of fresh water to refill automatically.. Or do it manually until you set one of those up..

I just didn't think it'd evaporate that quickly lol. So I do not need to add more salt? That's a good thing. I'll check one of those ATO's out and do it by hand until I get around to getting one. I appreciate the help!

yep.. evaporation rates change depending on humidity levels/temp/surface movement,etc...
and yes the salt does NOT evaporate so don't top off with salt water or the salinity in the tank will rise.. fresh water for top offs..

and yes.. my 120G tank evaporated roughly 2.5G in the dry winter months

welcome to a fish tank

I Agree with the above.
Evaporation amounts are Different for everyone due to humidity in your home Ambient Air temp how much open space at the top of your water how much the water moves.. and so on.

I loose about 5 gallons in 24 hours and it seems its mostly of the night time.. my ATO TANK IS 30 Gallons .. But i have several Tanks on the ATO System..

The pond on the other hand even thou it has a huge open surface area loosed much less (i think its because it has under water movement and not much surface movement. Designed that way for a better top DOWN View..

Have a good look around the tank too when I first set mine up I had a few areas that were slowly leaking it was easy to figure out as the salt started to build up. Keep an eye on your salinity pretty regular until you get your top off routine down and rule out any leakages.

Yes, you're right :)

I have two tanks. One is 290g with 26C, one is 83g with 30C. But I don't know why they evaporate same amount. Due to temperature?
